The high level of genetic recombination between members of the AI virus of this type allows gene permutations and causes the emergence of new virus strains. All types of H5N1 viruses have a row of basic amino acids at the hemagglutinin (HA) cleavage site and are fatal to chickens, generating systemic infections. Considering the relevance of this topic, the present work aimed to clarify the disease, its clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment, in addition to highlighting its economic repercussions. The results of the literature review demonstrate the need to employ biosafety measures in environments of poultry farms, so that Brazil maintains its status as an AI-free country for trade.
