Founded in 1988, it incorporated the companies that were part of Nuclebrás, created to comply with the Brazil - Germany Nuclear Agreement. The company has units in the State of Rio de Janeiro in the cities of Resende and Buena, in Caetité in Bahia, in Caldas in the State of Minas Gerais and in the capital of São Paulo, having its headquarters in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, an office in Fortaleza in Ceará and a project base in Santa Quitéria. Its mission is "To provide products and services associated with the nuclear fuel cycle, aimed at generating electricity, with safety, quality and sustainability." (BRASIL.INB. 2020) Uranium mining in Brazil started in Caldas-MG, in 1982, ending its activities a decade later, in 1995, when INB declared that exploration was economically unfeasible.
