Abstract
This is a complex subject, there are several reasons for this discrepancy, and it is important to consider several factors when analyzing this issue, such as assessment methodologies that often use standardized assessment methods, which may not fully reflect the quality of education. These tests tend to focus on specific math and Portuguese language skills, leaving other important areas and skills aside. Student performance on assessments is often also correlated with socioeconomic factors, such as access to quality educational resources, family support and socioeconomic conditions, in addition to pressure for assessment results that can lead to harmful practices in schools, such as excessive focus in test preparation at the expense of meaningful learning.
