Abstract

In recent years, gastrointestinal ulcer has been recognized as a prevalent and important disease in equine clinics. There is a strong relationship between its development and factors such as management, diet, stress, use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and others. Gastroscopy is the only efficient way to diagnose the presence of ulcers. If this is not possible, treatment will be determined by clinical symptoms, which are often vague and nonspecific. A 17-year-old mare with a history of intermittent diarrhea and normal appetite was treated at the Veterinary Hospital UNIFEOB, there was no possibility of endoscopy, the treatment was based on clinical symptoms. The animal showed no improvement, the treatment was changed to homeopathic. Faced with the condition, without response, euthanasia followed by necroscopic examination was implemented, with gastric and duodenal ulcers.
