Abstract
Haemonchus spp. is a nematode belonging to the superfamily Trichostrongyloidea, they are found parasitizing the abomasum of sheep and can measure about 10 to 30 mm in length by 500 μm in width. As a hematophagous, the main clinical manifestation is anemia and submandibular edema, which can lead to death. Lambs are the most affected, but older sheep can also be affected. This work aimed to correlate the erythrogram values of sheep naturally parasitized by Haemonchus spp. with non-parasitized sheep to observe the influence of this nematode on hematological values, in order to better understand the maintenance mechanisms in the host. Twenty Santa Inês sheep were used for the experiment, 10 animals naturally parasitized by Haemonchus spp. and the others
10 not parasitized.
