Abstract
The classification and nomenclature of Leishimanias offer enormous difficulties, because all species are morphologically very similar; cause diseases with different clinical characteristics and so peculiar that they cannot attribute their etiology to the same pathogen. This classification is traditionally based on geographic distribution (Old World and New World), clinical symptoms, pathological findings and serology BRAVO et al. (1993). According to LOPES et al. (1987) leishimaniasis is an inflammatory disease of the skin, mucosa or viscera, caused by protozoan parasites, mandatory intracellular kinetoplastids, transmitted through the bites of infected sandflies.
