In 1890, William Hesketh Lever, founder of Lever Brothers, wrote his ideas for Sunlight soap - its revolutionary new product that helped popularize cleaning and hygiene in Victorian England. It was "to make cleaning common; to decrease women's work; to promote health and contribute to personal attractiveness, that life can become more pleasant and rewarding for the people who use our products".
