Abstract

Horner syndrome is a manifestation that can occur frequently in dogs, cats, horses and many other species within the veterinary clinic. Its origin occurs as a result of the interruption of the sympathetic innervation of the eyeball, characterized by a set of neuro-ophthalmic signs such as: miosis, enophthalmos, ptosis and protrusion of the third eyelid. Due to the complex three-neuron pathway by which this syndrome is classified and the difficulty in locating the lesion, this review has with the objective of describing neuro-anatomical and physiological characteristics, as well as highlighting their causes, clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
