Importância e métodos de conservação do axalote (Ambystoma mexicanum) in situ e ex situ : revisão de literatura

Abstract

The axolotl is an aquatic amphibian native to Mexico, known for its ability to regenerate and its peculiar appearance. However, its wild population has been declining due to habitat loss, water pollution and illegal trapping. To ensure the survival of axolotls, in situ (in the natural environment) and ex situ (in captivity) conservation strategies are necessary. In situ conservation involves the protection and management of natural habitats, while ex situ conservation involves captive breeding and maintenance of populations. Both approaches play complementary roles in preserving the species, allowing the maintenance of genetic diversity, carrying out scientific research and developing reintroduction strategies into the wild.
