Abstract

Cryptosporidium is a protozoan that infects the microvilli region of cells in the intestinal epithelium and / or bronchial tree of more than 150 species of vertebrates. People with immunodeficiency, with HIV infection, have more severe and persistent symptoms than healthy individuals. This work investigated whether the fauna of small wild mammals of the Atlantic Forest (Complex Serra da Mantiqueira) is home to infection by C. parvum and / or C. maris detected in the feces of 39 animals; when they were subjected to a direct immunuoflorescence reaction, it was possible to confirm the presence of C maris (5.12%) and C parvum (5, 12%) oocysts.
