Abstract

The frequent use of motorized transport can be attributed to several factors such as population growth, urban expansion and the lack of efficient alternatives, since the provision of public transport and cycle paths do not always offer adequate infrastructure. Cars are considered one of the factors of greatest concern for sustainable urban development, responsible for emitting most of the waste that pollutes the air and also consuming a large amount of non-renewable materials such as oil. The increased use of motor vehicles requires more roads and parking, transforming natural areas into urban areas, causing damage to biodiversity and the environment. The emission of polluting gases is a central concern due to the negative environmental impact, greenhouse gases from motor vehicles are contributing to global warming. To promote sustainable development, there must be joint action to raise awareness among society and public policies, creating cycle paths, encouraging them through offering a modernized bicycle sharing system with affordable prices and regular maintenance, maintaining safety in traffic and facilities, aiming to achieve a balance between mobility, the environment and social equity.
