Abstract
Brazil has a high mortality rate due to hypertension.
Around 388 people die every day from the disease and around 60.9%
of those affected are elderly (CASTILHO, 2019). Arterial hypertension affects
approximately 25% of the world population (FERREIRA; MOURA; MALTA;
SARNO, 2006).
Several studies carried out have shown that controlling hypertension
artery is of great importance in reducing morbidity and mortality
cardiovascular (GUS; HARZHEIM; ZASLAVSKY; MEDINA, 2004). Your treatment
can be done through the use of medications, such as Verapamil Hydrochloride,
a calcium channel blocker, effective as monotherapy (TANWAR; NARUKA;
OJHA, 2007).
High blood pressure is often associated with several disorders
metabolic disorders, such as obesity (BRAZILIAN SOCIETY OF CARDIOLOGY,
2007). Comparing individuals with normal weight to those who are overweight,
there is a greater risk of developing diseases such as diabetes mellitus and
arterial hypertension, conditions that favor the development of diseases
cardiovascular (CARNEIRO; FARIA; FILHO; GUIMARÃES; LERÁRIO; FERREIRA;
ZANELLA, 2003).
