Abstract

The most common complications in small animals' gastrointestinal tract surgeries are due to sutures, as they are responsible for the safety of the incised site in terms of dehiscence and possible leakage of contents into the abdominal cavity, adhesions resulting from the healing process and strictures. There are, therefore, great disagreements regarding the safest type of suture to be used in this type of surgery. The present work aims, through bibliographic review, to discuss the types of sutures available that can be used in these techniques so that the small animal surgeon can have options and choose among them, those that best adapt to each patient and pathology .
