dc.description.abstractA new focus of glanders was diagnosed in horses in the states of Pernambuco and Alagoas, Brazil in 2000, through the isolation of the bacteria Burkholderia mallei in a mucopurulent exudate. Dandruff is a very infectious disease found in horses, mules and monkeys, which can be transmitted to humans. The acute form is characterized by fever and septicemia, leading the animal to death in a few days. Chronic disease can occur in horses with ulcerative nodules on the skin and nodules on the lungs and nasal cavity. Treatment is based on antibiotics such as aminoglycosides.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoUm novo foco de mormo foi diagnosticado em equinos nos Estados de Pernambuco e Alagoas, Brasil em 2000, através do isolamento da bactéria Burkholderia mallei num exudado mucopurulento. O mormo é uma doença muito infecciosa encontrada em cavalos, mulas e macacos, a qual pode ser transmitida ao homem. A forma aguda é caracterizada por febre e septicemia, levando o animal a morte em poucos dias. A doença crônica pode ocorrer em cavalos com nódulos ulcerativos na pele e nódulos nos pulmões e cavidade nasal. O tratamento é baseado em antibióticos como os aminoglicosídeos.pt_BR
