Abstract

Equine intussusception is defined as intussusception that mainly affects foals up to three years old. The condition is invagination of the segment of one organ into another segment the same. Characterized by intense, acute and severe abdominal pain. The diagnosis can be made through complementary tests, such as collection of peritoneal fluid, rectal palpation (when possible) and mainly through ultrasound examination, which can observe the small intestine. Treatment is clinical and may be surgical, depending on the severity of the injury. In more serious cases, which present severe congestion due to strangulation of the loop, enterectomy and enteroanastomosis are necessary to remove the part of the segment without functionality and with circulatory unviability. Through this work, we propose to report a case of jejunojejunal intussusception in a filly, with surgical resolution, treated at the UNIFEOB Veterinary Hospital.
