Abstract

The relationship between art, culture and censorship is complex and often conflicting. Art challenges the dominant culture, questions established norms and values, while culture seeks to regulate and standardize semiotic activities. Censorship arises in times when the very existence of art is questioned, threatening its freedom and relevance. However, the 1988 Federal Constitution guarantees artistic freedom, ensuring the expression of intellectual, artistic, scientific and communication activities, without censorship or license.
