Abstract
Around 50 million people around the world suffer from epilepsy, which
is characterized as a type of chronic mental disorder that affects all types of
people regardless of age group. (LABOISSIÈRE, 2017). People
affected by this disease can suffer profound consequences, such as death
sudden injury, psychological problems and mental disorders. (GRANDCHILD;
MARCHETTI, 2005)
The presence of epilepsy is defined by the recurrence of epileptic seizures
(at least two) spontaneous, not provoked by fever, acute insults of the
central nervous system or drug abuse. Seizures are
resulting from excessive electrical discharges in a group of brain cells,
different parts of the brain can be affected by the problem
(LABOISSIÈRE, 2017).
Integrative and Complementary Practices (PICS) are a treatment
that uses therapeutic resources based on traditional knowledge, aimed at
to prevent various illnesses, whether mental or physical. In some cases, also
can be used as palliative treatments in some chronic diseases. O
Unified Health System (SUS) offers 29 PICS free of charge. Evidence
scientific studies have proven the benefits of integrated treatment between medicine
conventional and integrative and complementary practices. (FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, [20-
-]).
