O Projeto Integrado é uma estratégia didática de ensino–aprendizagem cujo objetivo é materializar a interdisciplinaridade entre os saberes abordados durante o curso. Organizados em módulos temáticos, com eixos condutores que integram as unidades de estudo de cada período de oferta. Essas unidades, articuladas, geram o Projeto Integrado (PI) que permite ao estudante colocar em prática as competências que se pretende desenvolver em cada módulo.

    The elderly phase of life is a critical period in human development, marked by physical and mental adversities that lead to significant behavioral changes. This period is marked by social, physical and psychological changes, requiring strategies that prioritize care and support for the elderly. Long-stay institutions (ILP) provide support and basic hygiene care, while also offering medical and psychological support. However, this environment can generate loneliness, sadness and lack of support, resulting in a higher incidence of depression. Therefore, it is essential to remodel the aging process and the elderly and give new meaning to the life story of these people, highlighting the importance of resilience throughout the process.

    In relation to elderly people who live in long-term care institutions, there are some assumptions that consider the existence of problems related to the committed social role, maintenance of previous activities and identity aspects of these people during their stay in these places. To this end, this research sought to investigate the importance of valuing the identity and experiences of institutionalized subjects in old age. Thus, a participant from a LP institution in Vargem Grande do Sul - SP was selected, who, based on the narration and observation of her stories and experiences, verified the statements observed in the literature. However, the case analyzed demystified some of these ideas and presented a new perspective on the concept addressed.

    Population aging is a global reality that gives rise to diverse reflections and studies on its impact on contemporary society. In this context, the number of elderly people living in Long-Term Care Institutions has also seen a considerable increase and physical and mental decline ends up being accentuated under these conditions. In this context, the present study, in order to restore each person's individuality and life story, is based on literature and the experiences of each elderly person to restore their stories through personalized interventions.

    The project emphasizes the importance of psychological care for the elderly, highlighting the extreme importance of the mental health of the elderly. Care plays a crucial role in healthy aging, addressing physical, motor, social and emotional issues. Psychological support also helps you adapt to changes, as they can directly impact your mental health. Especially during the transition to long-term care facilities, adequate psychological support is necessary to ensure the emotional well-being of the elderly. It was worked using knowledge from all disciplines within the semester “Life Cycle and Psychopathological Aspects of Personality”. With the facts established and the knowledge necessary to carry out the project, a long-term institution was chosen, where supervised visits were carried out during the period from August to November. The observations carried out in the practical context provided a valuable opportunity to apply and contextualize the concepts learned in the academic environment, interventions were developed with two residents to finalize the project, the intervention was shaped to address the specific needs of each elderly person, focusing on both activities motor skills such as painting, to care to promote well-being and mental health.

    According to Alves and Silva (2013), from the perspective of Developmental Psychology, aging has been considered a stage of the life cycle that has aroused increasing interest among researchers. Aging is a process permeated by changes, such as physical, psychological and social. The individual becomes more sensitive to the environment due to the decrease in adaptation capacity. It is necessary to ensure that this process is healthy and active, which means encouraging elderly people to practice their independence and self-care (Alves, 2013). Furthermore, it is worth highlighting that this research was carried out with the aim of giving new meaning to stories. The term “resignify” denotes giving a new meaning to something, in addition, according to humanistic psychology, the meaning that is attributed to an experience will always be associated with an emotion, so giving another meaning means focusing on another feeling in order to end possible psychological suffering.

    The elderly, without a doubt, are living archives of knowledge and stories, they have a lot to teach the younger generations, bringing views from other times, from a point of view that is often different from today's, but this time can also be a A great counterpoint to younger generations, who often see the elderly as an unnecessary burden. Faced with this scenario, many families opt for a more practical solution, sending this elderly person to permanent shelter institutions. Institutionalization is often traumatic for the elderly, due to the absence of family members and is often done involuntarily, given this scenario; The presence of psychologists in institutions is very important, as they seek interventions for the well-being of the elderly and develop social skills; The elderly have good relationships among residents and excellent development of daily activities. However, there is a feeling of abandonment towards family members, as many elderly people were placed in an LTCF against their will. Due to the family's conditions, they cannot take care of the elderly person who may be very weak. Therefore, the relevance of this project consists of obtaining information about institutionalized elderly people and their vision of what it is like to be in this situation, being able to contribute to other students and professionals, as well as contributing to the elderly. Our objective is to identify the psychological profile of institutionalized elderly people and their needs, in addition to their relationships with their families, their feelings arising from the loss of autonomy when changing their routine to a new environment.

    Many vulnerable elderly people are abandoned by their family members, living in precarious situations or institutions, without any type of physical or psychological stimulation, leaving them isolated from the rest of society. Thus, the aim of this work was to research and address this topic in different contexts, bringing the importance and visibility of addressing this issue mainly in long-term care institutions to guide and inform them regarding issues involving old people; covering the knowledge of university psychology students, bringing prior knowledge about their future cases acting as psychologists; raising awareness among families regarding old age and its processes.

    The present work is a bibliographical review with the aim of highlighting the life history of elderly people and understanding the sensations that are caused by the aging process, together with visits to LTCFs or elderly housing institutions, in order to intensify the scope of research seeking the self-perception of aging in elderly men.
