Item Síndrome da reabsorção odontoclástica e hipercementose equina: Revisão de literatura(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) TODERO, Larissa M.; RIBEIRO, AmandaEquine odontoclastic resorption and hypercementosis syndrome (EOTRH) is a painful and progressive condition that affects the incisor and canine teeth of geriatric horses. Since its etiopathogenesis has not yet been fully resolved, this disease often ends up being underdiagnosed. Several theories of etiology have been considered for this disease, however, none of them have been fully accepted. Histologically, EOTRH presents with the resorption of tooth structures by odontoclasts, usually followed by the deposition of altered cementum, by odontoblasts, cementoblasts and fibroblasts. To diagnose this syndrome, a detailed clinical oral examination and the use of radiographic examination are necessary, since the signs may often not be visible at the beginning of the disease. Clinical signs are varied, and range from pain and lack of food apprehension with incisors, to more serious changes, such as changes in the angles of the incisors and tooth fractures. On radiographs, it is possible to observe resorption changes in the teeth, with lysis of the reserve crown and root and proliferative changes, such as deposition of cementum and expansion of the alveolar bone. In addition, alveolitis, osteomyelitis and periodontal changes are also found. There is no effective treatment for EOTRH, and extraction of the affected teeth is almost always indicated.Item Estudo retrospectivo de casuística das enfermidades de equídeos atendidos no setor de grandes animais do Centro Universitário UNIFEOB(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) TODERO, Larissa Midiane; SILVA, Lara Romero; CELOTTI, GustavoWhether for work, leisure or sports, the number of equines has been growing worldwide, which proves and increases the interaction of these animals with humans, as well as their importance for people's way of life and well-being. Through a retrospective data collection, this study collected data from the medical records of equines treated in the large animal sector of the Veterinary Center of the Octávio Bastos Foundation for Education University (UNIFEOB) from March 2018 to March 2023. Through the medical records, 434 animals were analyzed, with emphasis on the following data: breed, species, sex, age, weight, outcome and diseases according to the affected system. According to the statistics obtained in this study, it can be concluded that the category that had the most animals treated was that of gastrointestinal diseases, with 147 animals treated, representing approximately 33.9% of the care that occurred from March 2018 to March 2023. Right after that were musculoskeletal care, with 77 occurrences, approximately 17.7% of the total. Therefore, the objective of this research was to identify the profile of the equines and the main diseases that affected these animals treated at the veterinary center during the period analyzed.Item Rhodococcus Equi em potros(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) ALEM, Hionara Isys; NOVAIS, Maria Eduarda Lopes; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiRhodococcus is a disease of worldwide distribution caused by Rhodococcus equi. It is responsible for high mortality rates and great economic losses, regardless of race, sex or breeding system. It leads to severe bronchopneumonia in foals under six months of age due to their immunological immaturity. Diagnosis and treatment are based on a multimodal approach seeking ultrasound evidence suggestive of pyogranulomas, ultrasound abscess scores, and laboratory findings, including plasma fibrinogen concentrations, blood biochemical tests, and platelet and leukocyte counts.Item Enucleação transpalpebral em equino submetido a anestesia total intravenosa: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) COSTA, Beatriz S.; ZOGBI, Thays C. S. Cruz; MELO, Victória de; RIBEIRO, Amanda; MARTINS FILHO, Luís PauloHorses are often affected by eye injuries that can compromise their vision to a greater or lesser extent. The ophthalmological pathologies that these animals present have different etiologies, which can be vascular, inflammatory, neoplastic or traumatic. The present report aims to describe the transpalpebral enucleation technique as a means of effective treatment based on a case report in a female horse, treated at the Veterinary Hospital of Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, after traumatic evisceration of the eyeball.Item Correção de laceração perineal de terceiro grau em égua: revisão de literatura(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) FIGUEIREDO, Cristiane Leite; ABREU, Rogério Navarro de; MESQUITA, José Ricardo de Carvalho; FOZ FILHO, Roberto Pimenta de Pádua; FREITAS, Marinella Riegger deAmong the postpartum traumas in the mare, third degree perineal laceration stands out. The correction must be surgical, but it does not need to be performed immediately after the lesions occur. The lacerated tissues are swollen, necrotic and contaminated, and it is advisable to wait at least 3 to 6 weeks before undergoing reparative surgery. Numerous techniques with or without modifications have been described, but the basic principle of reconstructing a partition between the rectum and the vestibule, and the restoration of a functional perineal body has been recommended.Item Paralisia laríngea em equinos(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) SCAVACINI NETO, Ernesto; GIMENES, Francisco PeixotoLaryngeal paralysis is a condition that affects horses and is characterized by total or partial paralysis of the left or right arytenoid cartilage. This condition has a worldwide distribution affecting animals of all breeds and both sexes. The diagnosis is based on physical examination in addition to endoscopic examination of the animal's larynx, which allows the classification of the condition in four degrees according to the impairment of the visualized structures. Once the diagnosis is made, the animal must be sent to a surgical center for the surgery, which is the usual treatment in these cases.Item Broncopneunonia por Aspergillus SSP em equino: relato de caso(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) BITTENCOURT, Édina; GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; MANÇANARES, Celina de Almeida Furlanetto; DI SANTIS, Giovana G. W.; BANDARRA, Enio PedoneA 12-year-old Quarter Horse was referred to the Veterinary Pathology Service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine '' Octávio Bastos '', with diarrhea followed by dehydration and ataxia. Upon death, he underwent a necroscopic examination, where multiple pulmonary nodules with a caseous aspect center and bordered by a hyperemic or fibrous halo were observed. The lung was collected and histopathological examination was carried out, where lesions with granulomatous appearance and the presence of dichotomous branched hyphae were found. Through the results of macro and microscopically evaluations and the animal's history, the diagnosis of mycotic bronchopneumonia caused by Aspergillus sp was made, which usually develops by air through the inhalation of spores present in fomites and food.Item Utilização de parâmetros hematológicos e bioquímicos na avaliação de equinos submetidos a exercício de alta intensidade e longa duração(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) FRANCO, Marcelo F.; SILVA, Rodrigo C. da; MAZETTO, Fábio R.; VARZIM, Fernanda L. S. Bastos; BALIEIRO, Júlio Cesar de C.; PEREZ, ReginaIn order to evaluate possible influences of physical exercise on blood, calcium and phosphorus homeostasis, blood and blood serum samples from ten Arab and Anglo-Arabian horses, male and female, clinically healthy, were studied. of equestrian enduro. The samples were collected before the test started and after its completion. Values of calcium, phosphorus, total leukocyte count, globular volume and total protein were determined, which were subjected to analysis of variance, and when significant, the means were compared by the Tukey test. There was a statistically significant difference for phosphorus, total leukocyte count and globular volume. (P <0.01).Item Hemiplegia laríngea equina(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; BANDARRA, Enio PedoneLaryngeal hemiplegia, also known as '' snoring '' is a common problem in horses, where there is paresis of the left dorsal cricoarytenoid muscle, leading the animal to inability to abduct the arytenoid cartilage and vocal folds partially obstructing the air passage in the inspiration. In endoscopy, the asymmetry of the glottis can be seen and when subjected to exercise, the vocal cords vibrate, producing the characteristic sound.Item Controle antidopagem em esportes hípicos(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) OLIVEIRA, Sylvia Bonci de; FLEURY, João JunqueiraSubstance use before equestrian competitions has been more explicit, and associations are looking for a way to curb abuse and illegality. The misuse of drugs is prohibited in order to mask defects or emphasize quality. The anti-doping test, mainly of urine, collected before and / or after the competition, is taken in two samples, one for the test and the other for the counter test. With this control, associations are able to apply fair penalties for each particular case, according to the pre-established regulation.
