Orchiectomy is a procedure that removes the animal's testicles, promoting docility and better social interaction, and also treats pathologies of the reproductive system. Quality anesthesia is essential to avoid complications and ensure animal welfare. In the anesthetic context, α2 adrenergic agonists are widely used in horses for sedation and analgesia. During orchiectomy, local anesthesia with lidocaine reduces blood pressure response and relieves muscle tension, complementing general anesthesia. In horses, anesthetic procedures are crucial for safe interventions. Through this work, we propose to report a successful castration in a horse, with positive results and good recovery, which was treated at the UNIFEOB Veterinary Center.

Failure of passive transfer of immunity (FTIP) is a relatively common immune condition in equines, as the newborn needs maternal antibodies, originating from colostrum, to have immunological protection in the first weeks of life, which is called passive immunity. The antibodies present in colostrum are immunoglobulins and are transferred to the newborn only in the first hours of life through the ingestion of colostrum. This colostrum is formed approximately 30 days before parturition and is essential for the maintenance of the foals' lives, being able to maintain significant serum levels of immunoglobulins up to 90 days of life. In many cases, the newborn foal does not ingest colostrum or ingests a small volume, and this may be related to several factors, from difficulty in standing up, difficulty in suckling, pre-existing diseases from intrauterine life and even failure in the production of colostrum by the mare. Failure to ingest colostrum results in FTIP and can lead to dehydration, hypoglycemia and later to infections or even sepsis, in the first hours of life. In these cases, the foal may die if not treated quickly. Therefore, this study aims to report a case of FTIP in a newborn horse treated at the UNIFEOB Veterinary Center.

Pitiose cutânea em equinos: relato de caso
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) CARVALHO, Bárbara; SILVA, Letícia Ellen; CELOTTI, Gustavo; PESSINATTI, Bárbara Dezotti
Pythiosis is a disease that affects several species, however, equines are the most affected. It is caused by Phythium insidiosum, an oomycete that has tropism for swampy and hot areas, due to this, the incidence of the pathology is higher in regions and environments with the presence of water. It is characterized by ulcerative lesions of high proliferative power, intense pruritus and serosanguineous appearance. The definitive diagnosis is made through the clinical aspect and complementary exams, and its treatment can be carried out by chemical, surgical or immunotherapeutic methods, being evaluated the best for each case and, if necessary, associated. Through this work, it is proposed to report a case of pythiosis, with clinical resolution, in a horse treated at the Veterinary Hospital of UNIFEOB.

Obstrução recorrente das vias aéreas ''Orva'': revisão bibliográfica
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) TESSARINI, Giovana de Faria; SOUZA, Giovanna dos Santos de; MARTINS FILHO, Luis Paulo
Recurrent Airway Obstruction "ORVA" or also known as Chronic Obstructive Disease is an inflammatory pathology that affects the lower airways of horses that inhale dust from the stall, tracks and also from hay (ROCHA JUNIOR, et al., 2007). The signs usually presented by the affected animals are cough, dyspnea and exercise intolerance. On auscultation, the presence of vesicular sounds is verified, we can also perform a cytological examination of the bronchoalveolar lavage where neutrophils are found that indicate inflammation. In the treatment of animals affected by “ORVA”, it is extremely important to change management, use corticoids, antihistamines, mucolytics and bronchodilators (ROCHA JUNIOR, et al., 2007).
