Negative energy balance is a condition that occurs at the beginning of the lactation period, when high production animals are not able to consume enough to meet their nutritional requirements, due to the high utilization of nutrients for lactogenesis. The accumulation of body fat has an influence on metabolism in the period of initiation of lactation, reducing the impacts of diet deficiency. However, animals with a high body condition score tend to suffer more from negative energy balance, resulting in exacerbated catabolic processes, in addition to reproductive dysfunction. The increase in non-esterified fatty acids in the circulation, resulting from lipolysis, leads to an increase in circulating ketone bodies, characterizing a condition of ketosis.

    Tuberculose bovina
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) QUEIROZ, Francielle Maria Prodócimo; NOZAWA, Marcela Helena; CHANQUETTE, Maria Vitória Marchenta; BERALDO, Mariana Ramos Andrade
Bovine tuberculosis is one of the most important respiratory diseases to be studied due to its fatality in animals, especially in cattle. This pathology generates losses economic issues related to the production and condemnation of carcasses. Cattle can be infected by Mycobacterium bovis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare through various forms of contamination, the inhalation route (pulmonary) being the most pathogenic M.bovis infection. Concepts pathogenesis, lesions, clinical signs and diagnosis are reviewed in order to update knowledge on the aspect of bovine tuberculosis as a zoonosis.

    Fotossensibilização hepatógena em bovinos
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) VITORELO, Joana Torqui; THOMAZ, Juliana Montovanni; SCHEFFAUER, Juliana Sandall Pires; MOREIRA, Keilla do Nascimento; GAMA, Marco Antonio S. da
Photosensitization occurs worldwide and in all animal species, mainly in cattle and sheep. It can be subdivided into primary (with no liver damage) or secondary (hepatogenic). Hepatoxic plants are considered to be the most common cause of hepatogenic photosensitization in cattle. Phylloerytin, a product of degradation of chlorophyll, is most often associated with this disease.

Uterine involution means the reduction of the size of the uterus with recovery of its functions after delivery. This action seems to depend on the release of prostaglandin (PGF), which accelerates the process, stimulating the myometrium. This substance is normally produced by the uterus, being responsible for the correct postpartum uterine involution in normal time. Delay in uterine involution can result in retained placenta with important health consequences and the return of normal cycling activity, leading to economic losses. The use of PGF in the postpartum period can help to avoid such problems, however its efficiency can still be questioned.

    Encefalopatia espongiforme bovina
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) TREVIZAN, Bianca G.; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, known as 'mad cow' disease, is a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disorder, with prion as its etiologic agent. Contamination occurs through the ingestion of concentrates prepared with ingredients of animal origin contaminated by the prion protein. There is no treatment, and prophylaxis consists in the eradication of contaminated animals.

Bovines are very important animals for the population of today, as they are an excellent source of protein, with this, several researches are carried out in order to improve the quality and to achieve greater productivity of a herd. New techniques for production and reproduction are important for the advancement of the bovine cut which is growing more and more. An example of this is the cloning of animals of high genetic value, through the transfer of somatic nucleus (NT). This technique causes high loss of fetuses and mortality at birth due to a syndrome, related to the development of the placenta.
