Enrofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug in animals. In felines, retinal degeneration can occur due to increased dosage, frequency of administration or rapid infusion, combined with a lack of understanding of side effects. This degeneration caused by enrofloxacin treatment manifests as acute blindness and is usually irreversible. Although the pathophysiology of this process remains unclear, there are some possible hypotheses, such as the lack of the ABCG2 protein in the cat's blood-retinal barrier, allowing accumulation of the drug in the retina and subsequent changes. The most common clinical symptoms include mydriasis with absence of pupillary reflexes, reluctance to walk or jump, tapetal hyperreflexia and retinal vascular attenuation. Diagnosis can be made by ophthalmological examination, such as direct ophthalmoscopy with analysis of patterns of changes in the fundus of the eye and electroretinography, which provides data captured from photoreceptors, confirming the animal's blindness. Since there is no cure, prevention is the best option to avoid retinal degeneration in cats. This literature review aims to deepen the understanding and investigate the relationship between the use of enrofloxacin and retinal degeneration in cats.

Estudo morfológico dos dentes do puma concolor
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) LEITE, Debora Brenda Silva; CAROCI, Camila de Abreu; LUCA, Giovanna Matos de; BERALDI, Maria Vitória; MANÇANARES, Celina Almeida Furlanetto
The Puma concolor is a feline that lives solitary and has day and night habits. Classified as a species threatened with extinction in Brazil since 2014, the decline of the species could cause numerous changes to the ecosystem. This study seeks to identify the species' dental arch, as any problem in the oral cavity can lead to behavioral changes, systemic dysfunctions and compromising the animal's health. The study described the position and structure of the teeth in the dental arch, and to carry out macroscopic analyzes of the teeth, incisions were made in the skin, removing the facial muscles for exposure and for better clarity of photodocumentation. The teeth were extracted using surgical instruments. The identified dental formula was 2X (I 3/3, C 1/1, PM 3/2, M 1/1) = 30 teeth in the permanent dentition. It was observed that the second molar of the Puma concolor is located more medially compared to the domestic cat, although the anatomy of domestic and wild felines is similar. This study aims to compare some information with existing data, contributing to knowledge about the dental morphology of this species and providing material for future research.

Traumatologia aplicada a distúrbios encefálicos em gatos domésticos
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) ARAÚJO, João Pedro Alves de; MARTUCCI, Mariane Ferracin; MANÇANARES, Celina Almeida Furlanetto
Domestic felines are docile animals and, despite being domesticated, they have not lost their predatory habits and exploratory instinct. The most different reasons drove these animals to risk climbing in high places and as a result, many suffered traumatic brain injuries (TBI), which is one of the main cases of recorded deaths. The involvement of structures such as the brain caused the animals to present several systemic manifestations and even changes in behavior resulting from cases of trauma. Not only neurological alterations were able to lead to systemic consequences, but systemic alterations were responsible for causing nervous symptoms, and therefore, in these cases, a complete anamnesis added relevant information to the clinical pictures, allowing more informed diagnoses and consequently better targeted treatments. . Many drugs can be used, such as anti-inflammatories and analgesics, and some pharmacological associations were made and showed good results. The present work aimed to carry out a literature review on such clinical conditions, listing some of the pharmacological types used in the treatment of felines, such as their differentials.

Peritonite infecciosa felina (PIF): revisão de literatura
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) FOSCO, Maria Paula Périgo; GODOY, Juliana Reis; MALANDRIM, Patrícia; RODRIGUES, Talita Oliveira; SOSSAI, Vinícius; TORRES, Maria Lucia Marcucci
Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a common disease in feline medicine, has a worldwide distribution and is caused by the coronavirus, which is sensitive to the environment, but can remain in its infectious form for weeks on organic matter and dry surfaces. It is characterized as a silent onset systemic viral disease and can present two different manifestations: effusive or wet, non-effusive or dry. The definitive diagnosis is difficult since there is a lack of specificity of clinical symptoms, lack of pathognomonic hematological and biochemical alterations and the low sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests. The objective of this study was to review the literature on FIP, taking into account that it is an infectious disease that is mainly insidious in environments that have high agglomerations and feline breeding, difficult to diagnose and progressively fatal, due to the lack of specific treatment. .

    Lipidose hepática felina
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) SANTOS, Thayná Franco dos; FARIA, Maeli Ribeiro de; ALVIM, Talita Gonçalves; TORRES, Maria Lúcia Marcucci
Also called Fatty Degeneration, Feline Hepatic Lipidosis (FHL) is a highly fatal hepatobiliary disease that affects domestic cats. The most observed clinical signs are anorexia, weight loss, lethargy, emesis, jaundice and eventually behavioral symptoms, and may also present neurological signs, such as drooling, blindness, seizures and coma (OLIVEIRA; MELLO; VIEIRA, 2017). The diagnosis is based on the patient's history, clinical examination, physical examination and complementary tests such as blood count, biochemistry, ultrasound, radiography, clotting test, liver biopsy, fine needle aspiration and necropsy. The definitive diagnosis is through histopathological analysis (RODRIGUES, 2009). The objective of this work is to carry out a review of the disease, explaining its characteristics, causes, possible treatments and prognosis.

Ehrlichiosis is a disease caused by gram-negative intracellular bacteria that belongs to the Order Rickettsiales, Family Anaplasmataceae, genera Ehrlichia and Anaplasma, with the genus Ehrlichia canis infecting mononuclear cells, and Anaplasma platys infects only platelets. Often the clinical signs presented are nonspecific. This work reports the occurrence in two cats that presented in their laboratory exams, morulae suggestive of Anaplasma platys. These animals were treated at the Veterinary Hospital “Vicente Borelli” in São João da Boa Vista, SP. In one case, a three-month-old cat with a history of motor incoordination, apathy and anorexia. The other case, an eleven-year-old cat, with a history of injury to the left eye, easy tiredness, wheezing and coughing. In both cases described, the presence of inclusion in a platelet similar to Anaplasma platys was observed in the blood smear.

    Síndrome da imunodeficiência felina
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2009-09-30) CARLOS, Camila Zeferino; NUNES, Poliana Ferraz; SILVA, Tainá da; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio Carvalho
Feline immunodeficiency is a viral disease that affects domestic and wild felines. It is transmitted by cat bites, through the placenta, collective use of food containers, mutual licking and blood transfusion. The disease leads to a progressive loss of immunological activity, which is associated with secondary infections, such as stomatitis, chronic gingivitis, respiratory diseases and, less frequently, chronic diarrhea and dermatopathy, but often infected animals are asymptomatic. This disease decreases the animals' quality of life, can be transmitted by apparently healthy animals and has no cure. For these reasons, prophylactic measures such as neutering male cats should be used to reduce wandering and fighting; keep animals indoors when possible and do not expose them to newly adopted cats.

Anaplasma Platys em felino: relato de caso
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2017-09-30) LUIZ, Ana Carolina de Souza; SILVA, Ana Carolina S. da; ALBERTO, Maryna V. Lança
Anaplasmosis is a condition that can affect small and large animals. It is a disease caused by hemoparasite bacteria that attacks white cells. Anaplasma platys is an obligate intracellular gram negative bacterium that when inoculated in the hopedeiro, usually through a vector such as a hematophagous ectoparasite, can lead to thrombocytopenia, among other serological disorders. The infection caused by this parasite can lead to anemia, fever, lethargy and emesis, the treatment being the use of tetracycline antibiotics. The main form of diagnosis is through serology. It was reported the case of a male cat, of no defined breed, affected by such disease.
