Doença renal crônica em felinos domésticos: Revisão bibliográfica
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) HONÓRIO, Vinícius Martinelli; LIMA, Júlia Cristini Ribeiro de; GONÇALVES, Brenna Maria Cyrino Nogueira
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a disease characterized by loss of functional quality and/or irreversible structural damage to the kidneys that commonly affects domestic felines, especially older ones, resulting in decreased kidney function over months to years. There are congenital and acquired causes that can trigger the disease, causing affected animals to frequently present clinical signs such as lethargy, vomiting, dehydration, polyuria, uremic ulcers and weight loss, generating a significant impact on the quality of life and longevity of these pets. To diagnose the disease, it is necessary to analyze the clinical signs presented by the animal together with the results of laboratory tests that evaluate kidney function, as well as the use of ultrasound, which is a crucial imaging test to evaluate kidney morphology and detect possible lesions. Since it is an irreversible disease, treatment becomes palliative, through means that slow the progression and aim to minimize the clinical impact of the disease on the patient. Staging the disease is essential for guiding treatment and patient prognosis. This classification takes into account serum creatinine levels and other markers of kidney damage, as well as the clinical signs presented by the animals. The objective of this review is to report on the involvement of felines by chronic kidney disease, including clinical and laboratory changes, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.

(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) RODRIGUES, Talita Oliveira; GODOY, Juliana Reis; FOSCO, Maria Paula Périgo; MALANDRIM, Patrícia; SOSSAI, Vinícius; SOUZA, Mariely Thaís de
The present work analyzes a case of cryptococcosis in a domestic feline (Felis catus), mixed breed, 11 years old, treated at the Veterinary Hospital of UNIFEOB, São João da Boa Vista - SP. The animal presented swelling in the nasal region. After clinical examination, material was collected for fungal culture and histopathological examination. In the latter, pyogranulomatous dermatitis and the presence of the microorganism Cryptococcus neoformans were observed, confirming the diagnosis of Cryptococcosis. Therapy with the drugs itraconazole and fish oil, for at least two months of clinical follow-up, resulted in an evident improvement of the signs, since there were no relapses.

Immunohistochemistry has been used in the human diagnostic routine since the 1970s and, recently, has been introduced in veterinary medicine, however with its use still limited due to the lack of specific antibodies to animal tissues, thus using antibodies that present cross-reactivity between antigens humans and animals. This technique aims to visualize in the cell the distribution of antibody molecules marked with fluochromic substances (immunofluorescence), antibodies associated with enzymes (peroxidase) or radioactive (auto-radiography). For a conclusive diagnosis, with quality and usefulness, the immunohistochemical examination must be inserted in an appropriate clinical-morphological context, the selection of ideal antibodies and standardized reaction protocols must be made, clinical information must be associated and data from complementary exams, allowing the pathologist a thorough analysis of the case. Among the main indications of this exam, there is the attempt of histogenetic classification of neoplasms with undifferentiated aspects in routine slides, so that more suitable treatment schemes can be applied to these cases. This literature review aims to present the characteristics of the immunohistochemical examination, as well as its use in veterinary medicine for the diagnosis of neoplasms.

Nowadays the alterations of the locomotor system in horses have been growing, since, increasingly, they are exposed to sports activities. However, the impact remains of great relevance to its good performance, being often the exact place of limb involvement that is difficult to diagnose. The purpose of perineural block for the diagnosis of lameness is to provide analgesia to a limb region, causing the animal to temporarily decrease lameness, provided that this anesthetized region is responsible for lameness, thus allowing the location of the probable thirst. injury, which may be investigated by other ancillary methods in order to complete the diagnosis.
