(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) FIGUEIREDO, Cristiane Leite; ABREU, Rogério Navarro de; MESQUITA, José Ricardo de Carvalho; FOZ FILHO, Roberto Pimenta de Pádua; FREITAS, Marinella Riegger de
Among the postpartum traumas in the mare, third degree perineal laceration stands out. The correction must be surgical, but it does not need to be performed immediately after the lesions occur. The lacerated tissues are swollen, necrotic and contaminated, and it is advisable to wait at least 3 to 6 weeks before undergoing reparative surgery. Numerous techniques with or without modifications have been described, but the basic principle of reconstructing a partition between the rectum and the vestibule, and the restoration of a functional perineal body has been recommended.

    Paralisia laríngea em equinos
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) SCAVACINI NETO, Ernesto; GIMENES, Francisco Peixoto
Laryngeal paralysis is a condition that affects horses and is characterized by total or partial paralysis of the left or right arytenoid cartilage. This condition has a worldwide distribution affecting animals of all breeds and both sexes. The diagnosis is based on physical examination in addition to endoscopic examination of the animal's larynx, which allows the classification of the condition in four degrees according to the impairment of the visualized structures. Once the diagnosis is made, the animal must be sent to a surgical center for the surgery, which is the usual treatment in these cases.

A 12-year-old Quarter Horse was referred to the Veterinary Pathology Service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine '' Octávio Bastos '', with diarrhea followed by dehydration and ataxia. Upon death, he underwent a necroscopic examination, where multiple pulmonary nodules with a caseous aspect center and bordered by a hyperemic or fibrous halo were observed. The lung was collected and histopathological examination was carried out, where lesions with granulomatous appearance and the presence of dichotomous branched hyphae were found. Through the results of macro and microscopically evaluations and the animal's history, the diagnosis of mycotic bronchopneumonia caused by Aspergillus sp was made, which usually develops by air through the inhalation of spores present in fomites and food.

(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) FRANCO, Marcelo F.; SILVA, Rodrigo C. da; MAZETTO, Fábio R.; VARZIM, Fernanda L. S. Bastos; BALIEIRO, Júlio Cesar de C.; PEREZ, Regina
In order to evaluate possible influences of physical exercise on blood, calcium and phosphorus homeostasis, blood and blood serum samples from ten Arab and Anglo-Arabian horses, male and female, clinically healthy, were studied. of equestrian enduro. The samples were collected before the test started and after its completion. Values of calcium, phosphorus, total leukocyte count, globular volume and total protein were determined, which were subjected to analysis of variance, and when significant, the means were compared by the Tukey test. There was a statistically significant difference for phosphorus, total leukocyte count and globular volume. (P <0.01).

    Hemiplegia laríngea equina
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Laryngeal hemiplegia, also known as '' snoring '' is a common problem in horses, where there is paresis of the left dorsal cricoarytenoid muscle, leading the animal to inability to abduct the arytenoid cartilage and vocal folds partially obstructing the air passage in the inspiration. In endoscopy, the asymmetry of the glottis can be seen and when subjected to exercise, the vocal cords vibrate, producing the characteristic sound.

    Controle antidopagem em esportes hípicos
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) OLIVEIRA, Sylvia Bonci de; FLEURY, João Junqueira
Substance use before equestrian competitions has been more explicit, and associations are looking for a way to curb abuse and illegality. The misuse of drugs is prohibited in order to mask defects or emphasize quality. The anti-doping test, mainly of urine, collected before and / or after the competition, is taken in two samples, one for the test and the other for the counter test. With this control, associations are able to apply fair penalties for each particular case, according to the pre-established regulation.

(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) BONJORNO, Fernando; JACOBUCCI, Daniela Franco Carvalho
A new focus of glanders was diagnosed in horses in the states of Pernambuco and Alagoas, Brazil in 2000, through the isolation of the bacteria Burkholderia mallei in a mucopurulent exudate. Dandruff is a very infectious disease found in horses, mules and monkeys, which can be transmitted to humans. The acute form is characterized by fever and septicemia, leading the animal to death in a few days. Chronic disease can occur in horses with ulcerative nodules on the skin and nodules on the lungs and nasal cavity. Treatment is based on antibiotics such as aminoglycosides.

    Insuficiência hepática: relato de caso
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) BARROS, Mariana Cabral Ruggero; FALCÃO, Sara Carolina Fernandez; ABREU, Rogério Navarro de; FERREIRA, Francisco Pupo Pires; ROSAS FILHO, Adauto de Carvalho
The liver has functions of metabolism, excretion and synthesis of some substances important to the body. The most commonly observed signs are anorexia, depression, colic, weight loss, jaundice, dysfunctions in the central nervous system, photosensitization, ventral edema and hemorrhages Liver failure can be caused by toxic plants, infectious, neoplastic causes, by the use of medications. The information collected during anamnesis, complete blood count and biochemical examination (enzymes AST, GGT, Alkaline Phosphatase, SDH) are essential for the diagnosis of the condition. An Apaloosa horse, 12 years old, 436 kg showed signs of acute abdomen on the 19th of March 2011 and was sent to Hospital Veterinário Vicente Borelli located in São João da Boa Vista on the 21st of March of the same year, but without evidence of abdominal pain and with a report of a fracture in the posterior limb two years ago, at which time many medications were administered and a history of progressive weight loss a month ago. Through anamnesis and complementary exams, tubular renal injury and liver failure were diagnosed. The animal received forty liters of intense fluid therapy when it arrived at HOVET. Antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, omeoprazole as gastric protector and an alternative supplementation with albumin and powdered dextrose due to low serum amounts of glucose and albumin were also instituted in this animal.

In blood samples the cellular and liquid components can be separated by centrifugation. The extracellular or acellular fluid is called plasma. The primary plasma proteins are albumin, globulins and fibrinogen. The latter is a polypeptide belonging to the group of acute phase proteins produced in inflammatory and infectious conditions. As fibrinogen is an indicator of inflammatory processes, its dosage is useful for monitoring infections, being more constant than the number of leukocytes, as they undergo daily fluctuations. The work aims to show the importance of fibrinogen in laboratory tests of a horse that was treated at Hovet with acute abdomen syndrome.
