Item Rabdomiossarcoma em gato: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) MARSOLLA, Eduardo H.; CARDOSO, Mariana T.; KIRCHHEIMER, Vinícius; ROCHA, Lívia Maria de Souza; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoAmong low-frequency neoplasms in veterinary medicine, we find rhabdomyosarcoma, a neoplasm characteristic of the musculature with high infiltrative and metastatic power. Such neoplasia is rare in dogs and cats, being less frequent in cats, whose etiology can be attributed to a type of tumor induced by post-vaccination reaction. The treatment for this type of tumor is surgical intervention with associated chemotherapy, having a reserved prognosis. This present report proposes to demonstrate a therapy with associated chemotherapy in a 21-year-old feline.Item Osteosarcoma em um cão: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) CARDOSO, Mariana Três; MARSOLLA, Eduardo Henrique; ROCHA, Lívia M. S.; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoOsteosarcoma is the most common bone neoplasm in the small animal clinic. It can occur in the axial or appendicular skeleton, in which the latter is more frequent. This type of neoplasia is highly aggressive and metastatic, with the lung being the organ most commonly affected by metastasis. The diagnosis is based on clinical signs and symptoms, radiographic exams, aspiration cytology and confirmed by histopathology after biopsy. The treatment with the best results is limb amputation associated with chemotherapy. However, there are reports in the literature citing only chemotherapy with limb preservation, prosthesis placement and grafts. The prognosis is poor and the animal's survival varies from five to nine months.Item Erliquiose monocítica canina: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) OLIVEIRA, Aline Fernandes de; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoCanine ehrlichiosis stands out for its casuistic relevance. Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis is caused by Ehrlichia canis, being transmitted to the animal by the tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus at the time of blood meal. Clinical signs vary with the stage of the disease (acute, subclinical and chronic) and the affected organs and tissues. For the diagnosis of the disease, in addition to the clinical signs that may be suggestive of ehrlichiosis, severe laboratory abnormalities may contribute to the increase in the suspicion of the condition. Doxycycline is the drug of choice for the treatment of the condition, and may vary in relation to dose and treatment time. The case is a nine-month-old Golden Retriever, with a history of tick infestation and nonspecific clinical signs. After treatment with doxycycline and control of ticks, the patient had clinical improvement, with the tests returning to normal for species and the negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Item Incidência de cinomose nas clinicas veterinárias de Capivari e São João da Boa Vista(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) FERREIRA, Mariana A.; SILVA, Gabriela C. A study was carried out in the veterinary clinics of the municipalities of Capivari and São João da Boa Vista, which verified the incidence of distemper in these cities, relating to the socioeconomic and epidemic health indexes of the population. It was observed that in Capivari the incidence was 3.46% and in São João da Boa Vista it was 1.96%. The indications for this therapy are related to processes of tissue repair of wounds, reduction of painful joint, muscle and bone processes and causing various therapeutic effects beneficial to the patient. Homeopathy is an alternative treatment against this disease, which treats the sick individual as a whole, worrying about the body and the mind. It is a therapy that heals without harming the patient, restoring his vital energy, which was shaken by the neoplasm.Item Fisiopatogenia, sinais clínicos, diagnóstico e tratamento da hiperplasia prostática benigna (HPB)(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) KUHL, Sara Elisa; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoBenign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common prostatic disease in dogs, being more frequent in whole males over six years of age. It occurs as a result of androgenic stimulation, mediated specifically by dihydrotestosterone. BPH can be subclinical or tenesmus, hematuria and prostatic bleeding occur. The diagnosis is based on history, clinical signs, physical examination (mainly rectal examination) and complementary examinations (radiography, ultrasound and prostate biopsy). Orchiectomy is the treatment of choice, but finasteride has also been used in dogs whose preservation of fertility is desired.Item Incidência de giardíase em cães atendidos no Hospital Veterinário do UNIFEOB em São João da Boa Vista(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) CARLOS, Camila Zeferino; NUNES, Poliana Ferraz; SILVA, Tainá da; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoGiardia is a protozoan that affects several animal species including man. It is transmitted through contaminated water and food containing cysts, through fecal and oral means, direct animal-animal contact, where animals are clustered. This parasite causes poor digestion of nutrients, pale and fetid stools, steatorrhea, chronic diarrhea, weight loss or small weight gain. In this work, the incidence of giardiasis in dogs treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos was verified. Of the 981 dogs treated from April 2008 to April 2009, 26 had canine giardiasis. The present study found that females were the most affected and the highest incidence was in adult dogs. In relation to the period of the year, autumn had a higher number of diagnoses, due to the average temperature in this season varying according to the region of the country.Item Síndrome da imunodeficiência felina(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2009-09-30) CARLOS, Camila Zeferino; NUNES, Poliana Ferraz; SILVA, Tainá da; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoFeline immunodeficiency is a viral disease that affects domestic and wild felines. It is transmitted by cat bites, through the placenta, collective use of food containers, mutual licking and blood transfusion. The disease leads to a progressive loss of immunological activity, which is associated with secondary infections, such as stomatitis, chronic gingivitis, respiratory diseases and, less frequently, chronic diarrhea and dermatopathy, but often infected animals are asymptomatic. This disease decreases the animals' quality of life, can be transmitted by apparently healthy animals and has no cure. For these reasons, prophylactic measures such as neutering male cats should be used to reduce wandering and fighting; keep animals indoors when possible and do not expose them to newly adopted cats.Item Técnica para cateterização do espaço subaracnóideo em ovinos(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2007-09-30) BOCHINI, João Carlos; ALVES, Jeferson Douglas Soares; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio Carvalho; NABI, Mariana Sintoni; DEFAVARI JÚNIOR, Antônio Carlos; FELICIO, Luciano Freitas; PANATTONI, João Flávio; HUCKE, Érica Engelberg Teixeira da SilvaTechniques for collecting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in some animal species have been used for some time. However, the existing techniques present restrictions, both methodological and for animal welfare, which need to be minimized. In this way, 6 multiparous sheep (Ovis aries) of the Santa Inês breed were used to obtain CSF through a puncture of the subarachnoid space with the aid of an epidural catheter between the cervical vertebrae C1 and C2 fixed on the epidermis. After anesthetic recovery of the animals, CSF was harvested for 5 consecutive days. 3 ml of CSF were obtained per animal / day. Throughout the experimental period, the sheep did not show neurological changes, nor a sign of infection, as well as no changes in the CSF's physical characteristics. We conclude that the method for catheterization of the subarachnoid space presented above is feasible and effective for obtaining continuous CSF for prolonged periods, thus avoiding more invasive methods with the same objective.
