Item Uveíte recorrente secundária a leptospirose em equinos: revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; LINO, Estefany Zerbeto Basilio; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiCharacterized by recurrent episodes of inflammation and Immune-mediated response, interrupted by periods of quiescence, Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU) is a pathology that usually occurs secondary to infection by Leptospira spp. It mainly affects the uveal tract, which is composed of the iris, ciliary body and choroid, and can be divided into acute, insidious (asymptomatic) and chronic. In the acute phase, clinical signs such as epiphora, hyphema, hypopyon, blepharospasm, hypotonia and miosis are present. The chronic phase encompasses the terminal signs of the disease, such as cataracts, lens dislocation or subluxation, retinal detachment and blindness. The diagnosis is made through a thorough ophthalmic examination, combined with serology to identify the bacteria Leptospira spp. Treatment aims to preserve the integrity of vision, reduce eye discomfort, control inflammation and eliminate bacteria. The prognosis for vision depends on the involvement of the eye's component structures. Sanitary management and vector control are of paramount importance for preventing Leptospirosis infection, and consequently, reducing the occurrence of uveitis.Item Rhodococcus Equi em potros(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) ALEM, Hionara Isys; NOVAIS, Maria Eduarda Lopes; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiRhodococcus is a disease of worldwide distribution caused by Rhodococcus equi. It is responsible for high mortality rates and great economic losses, regardless of race, sex or breeding system. It leads to severe bronchopneumonia in foals under six months of age due to their immunological immaturity. Diagnosis and treatment are based on a multimodal approach seeking ultrasound evidence suggestive of pyogranulomas, ultrasound abscess scores, and laboratory findings, including plasma fibrinogen concentrations, blood biochemical tests, and platelet and leukocyte counts.Item Pitiose cutânea em equinos: relato de caso(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) CARVALHO, Bárbara; SILVA, Letícia Ellen; CELOTTI, Gustavo; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiPythiosis is a disease that affects several species, however, equines are the most affected. It is caused by Phythium insidiosum, an oomycete that has tropism for swampy and hot areas, due to this, the incidence of the pathology is higher in regions and environments with the presence of water. It is characterized by ulcerative lesions of high proliferative power, intense pruritus and serosanguineous appearance. The definitive diagnosis is made through the clinical aspect and complementary exams, and its treatment can be carried out by chemical, surgical or immunotherapeutic methods, being evaluated the best for each case and, if necessary, associated. Through this work, it is proposed to report a case of pythiosis, with clinical resolution, in a horse treated at the Veterinary Hospital of UNIFEOB.Item Persistência do úraco em potros: revisão bibliográfica(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) ALCANTARA, Isadora Novelli de; VERONEZI, Nathália Giovana; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiOne of the most common complications in foals is the persistence of urachus, it affects about 6% of newborns and can develop within days or even weeks after birth. This non-regression of the fetal urinary tract, which under normal circumstances is obliterated soon after birth, causes the elimination of urine to take place through the navel. The most common clinical signs are moist and swollen umbilical region and dripping of urine through the navel, sporadically or during urination. Diagnosis is based on inspection, palpation and confirmed by ultrasound examination. Treatment should be initiated using broad-spectrum antibiotics, cleaning and disinfection of the region and, in non-responsive cases, surgical correction.Item Intoxicação por Fumonisina B1 em Equideos : revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) OLIVEIRA, Maisa Carla de; TORRES, Guilherme Oliveira de; FONSECA, Pedro Augusto Loures de Carvalho; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiLeukoencephalomalacia is a highly fatal neurotoxic process that affects equines, leading to degeneration of the white matter of the brain. The other form of intoxication is hepatic, where it assumes that the effects are milder and easier to reverse. The disease is caused by the ingestion of mycotoxin fumonisin B1, which is a toxic metabolite produced by the fungus Fusarium moniliforme, found in corn that is stored in precarious conditions. The period of highest incidence of the disease is between the months of June and September. Symptoms include incoordination, aimless walking, anorexia, lethargy, depression and head pressing, with the evolution of the clinical picture there may be convulsions, coma and death. Clinical signs usually appear acutely and death can occur within hours or a few days. Typical macroscopic lesions of leukoencephalomalacia include liquefactive necrosis of the cerebral hemispheres. The diagnosis is based on the animal's history, detailed anamnesis focusing on food management, analysis of the corn offered and complementary exams. Considered palliative, the treatment aims to alleviate the symptoms presented. The prognosis of this condition is considered unfavorable and the prevention is of paramount importance, because only with proper food management it is possible to avoid the disease.
