Atrioventricular block (AVB) in dogs is a condition that affects electrical communication between the atria and ventricles of the heart, and is classified into three degrees and also diagnosed by electrocardiogram. Thus, in this case report, a male canine, of approximately three years of age, was submitted to pre-anesthetic evaluation for an orchiectomy. During the physical examination, a discrepancy between the animal's heart rate and behavior was identified, leading to the suspicion of a second-degree atrioventricular block (AVB), later confirmed by electrocardiogram. After returning for atropine administration to adjust the anesthetic protocol, the orchiectomy was successfully performed, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of cardiac conditions to ensure patient safety during surgical procedures. Thus, the situation illustrates the challenges and the importance, mainly, of a thorough cardiac evaluation, especially in animals that will be exposed to anesthesia, since dogs of any breed and age can be affected.

Brachycephalic dog syndrome is prevalent in breeds such as Pugs, Boxers, Shih Tzus, French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs, due to anatomical abnormalities such as nostril stenosis and elongated soft palate. Consequently, these changes lead to several complications such as eversion of laryngeal sacs and tonsils, macroglossia and tracheal collapse, which generate significant consequences for the animals, mainly esophageal and gastric distension due to increased respiratory effort. Symptoms include noisy breathing, stridor, increased inspiratory effort, coughing, altered voice, episodes of emesis, cyanosis of the mucous membranes and syncope. Diagnosis is based on history, clinical signs, physical examination and complementary exams such as cervical and thoracic radiographs to evaluate tracheal narrowing. Finally, surgical treatment is essential, with staphylectomy to reduce the lengthening of the soft palate and rhinoplasty to remodel the nasal structure, in addition to palliative measures such as maintaining cool environments and controlling physical effort. Thus, this case report addresses the accurate diagnosis, surgical treatment and recovery of respiratory syndrome in a French Bulldog, highlighting the importance of early intervention and postoperative care to improve its quality of life.

(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) MICHELETTI, Carolina Dantas; BENTO, Maria Gabriela; SANTOS, Pedro Henrique Avelino dos; FERREIRA, Júlia Eliza; SOUZA, Mariely Thaís de
Deep pyoderma is a dermatological condition increasingly present in the veterinary clinical routine, caused by a pyogenic infection of bacterial origin. This paper describes a case of deep pyoderma in an eight-year-old, mixed-breed bitch, who had skin complaints since she was four years old, with a history of unresponsive treatments. The animal had alopecic areas, hyperpigmentation, papules, pustules, hyperkeratosis and generalized desquamation. The diagnosis was confirmed through histopathological examination, which indicated the presence of cellulitis, furunculosis and folliculitis, so the treatment consisted of antibiotic therapy, whose clinical improvement was significant.
