Rabdomiossarcoma em gato: relato de caso
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) MARSOLLA, Eduardo H.; CARDOSO, Mariana T.; KIRCHHEIMER, Vinícius; ROCHA, Lívia Maria de Souza; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio Carvalho
Among low-frequency neoplasms in veterinary medicine, we find rhabdomyosarcoma, a neoplasm characteristic of the musculature with high infiltrative and metastatic power. Such neoplasia is rare in dogs and cats, being less frequent in cats, whose etiology can be attributed to a type of tumor induced by post-vaccination reaction. The treatment for this type of tumor is surgical intervention with associated chemotherapy, having a reserved prognosis. This present report proposes to demonstrate a therapy with associated chemotherapy in a 21-year-old feline.

Retrobulbar anesthesia was first described in 1884 to perform enucleation. The most frequent indications for enucleation are trauma, intraocular tumors, secondary glaucoma and aesthetic disfigurement. Conductive anesthesia must obey the general principles of ophthalmic surgery, which are: absolute immobility, low intraocular pressure, decreased bleeding and abolition of the ROC oculocardiac reflex. The manifestation of ROC is mainly due to bradycardia, atrioventricular block and bigemine and ectopic waves. The surgical enucleation procedure was performed on a feline, 21-year-old male, SRD who had tumoral masses that compromised the eye. Retrobulbar anesthesia has the advantage of reducing the minimum alveolar concentration and, as a result, causes less cardiovascular depression in the animal, which is important for geriatric patients, as in this case. In addition, it produces central desensitization and postoperative residual analgesia

Diabetes mellitus, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, is a metabolic disorder characterized by hypoinsulinemia, meaning the animal's inability to maintain glycemic control. It is the result of the loss of function of the cells of the pancreas, which are responsible for the production of insulin. With the fall of the circulating hormone, it is difficult to transport glucose from the blood to most cells, generating an increase in gluconeogenesis, hepatic glycogenolysis and production of ketone bodies. Cataracts are an important problem in ophthalmology and common in cases of dogs with diabetes mellitus, since glucose saturation directly interferes with osmolarity through sorbitol inside the lens. Cataracts are the opacification of the lens resulting in loss of vision in the affected eye, which is usually bilateral in cases of diabetogenic cataracts and which can result not only in problems with visual impairment, but also in relevant secondary problems including even the loss of the eyeball. Unfortunately, there is no medication available for the treatment of cataracts, but in the case of diabetogenic cataracts, there are drugs that inhibit the enzyme aldose reductase and cause the cataract process to minimize its progression. However, the only viable treatment is surgical, with aspiration / dissection, intracapsular facetomy and phacoemulsification techniques being available to solve the problem.
