- Item Hiperadrenocorticismo em felinos: manifestações clinicas, métodos diagnósticos e tratamento - Revisão bibliográfica(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; RIBEIRO, Camila; GONÇALVES, Brenna Maria Cyrino NogueiraAlthough uncommon in felines, hyperadrenocorticism is an important condition to understand in this species, since it presents a challenging diagnosis and treatment. The most common clinical signs are polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, skin atrophy, bulging abdomen, symmetrical bilateral alopecia, weight gain and muscle atrophy. These are usually the same symptoms as diabetes mellitus or skin hyperfragility, since hyperadrenocorticism can be related to these pathologies. In laboratory tests, stress leukogram, hyperglycemia, glycosuria and hypercholesterolemia are common, and there may also be an increase in ALT and ALP. In addition to laboratory tests, this disease requires a more specific diagnosis, such as low-dose dexamethasone suppression tests, adrenocorticotropic hormone stimulation or high-dose dexamethasone suppression tests, and also the cortisol-creatinine ratio. For treatment, the use of trilostane, cabergoline, radiotherapy or hypophysectomy for pituitary tumors and unilateral or bilateral adrenalectomy are indicated. The objective of this work is to carry out, through bibliographic research, a review of the pathology of hyperadrenocorticism in felines, so that we have a deeper understanding of it, since it is less common, and thus obtain knowledge about the diagnosis and more effective forms of treatment.
- Item Uso de anticorpo IGY especifico da gema de ovo no tratamento da parvovirose canina: revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) MORAIS, Mariane da Cunha de; BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; NUNES, Alanne TenórioParvovirus is a viral disease of great relevance in dogs, causing high mortality in this species. To treat this condition, new alternatives have been used, including immunoglobulins. When chickens are exposed to parvovirus, they produce immunoglobulin Y (IgY), which accumulates in the yolks of their eggs. Studies show that IgY improves the intestinal health of dogs, causing milder symptoms and also increasing the survival rate of these animals.
- Item Efeitos da nutrição sobre a saúde e bem estar de cães em diferentes fases da vida(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; MORAES, Mariane da Cunha de; NUNES, Alanne TenórioTo guarantee a good quality of life for dogs, correct nutritional management throughout their development is essential. It is known that as puppies, dogs must ingest colostrum to receive immunoglobulins and, later, regular breast milk, until three weeks of age when they can receive solid foods. To meet the demands of the puppies, the bitch must receive adequate amounts of nutrients, considering the requirements throughout the gestational and lactation period. In healthy adult dogs, nutrition must meet requirements and reduce the risk of disease. In the case of dogs with illnesses, nutrition can help with management and treatment. In obesity, for example, energy restriction with fiber administration is recommended to generate satiety; in heart disease, it is necessary to provide a food with high energy density and low sodium content; in chronic kidney disease (CKD), in turn, nutrition must ensure the maintaining the body condition score, helping to reduce azotemia and maintaining acid-base balance. Finally, in the case of elderly dogs, adequate levels of protein must be provided, taking into account in view of the progressive loss of muscle mass. These particularities must be taken into account to ensure the health and well-being throughout all stages of dog development. Therefore, the present work aims to elucidate the importance of establishing adequate nutrition according to the dog's life stage, aiming to assist veterinarians and owners in choosing the best nutritional management.
- Item Uveíte recorrente secundária a leptospirose em equinos: revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; LINO, Estefany Zerbeto Basilio; PESSINATTI, Bárbara DezottiCharacterized by recurrent episodes of inflammation and Immune-mediated response, interrupted by periods of quiescence, Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU) is a pathology that usually occurs secondary to infection by Leptospira spp. It mainly affects the uveal tract, which is composed of the iris, ciliary body and choroid, and can be divided into acute, insidious (asymptomatic) and chronic. In the acute phase, clinical signs such as epiphora, hyphema, hypopyon, blepharospasm, hypotonia and miosis are present. The chronic phase encompasses the terminal signs of the disease, such as cataracts, lens dislocation or subluxation, retinal detachment and blindness. The diagnosis is made through a thorough ophthalmic examination, combined with serology to identify the bacteria Leptospira spp. Treatment aims to preserve the integrity of vision, reduce eye discomfort, control inflammation and eliminate bacteria. The prognosis for vision depends on the involvement of the eye's component structures. Sanitary management and vector control are of paramount importance for preventing Leptospirosis infection, and consequently, reducing the occurrence of uveitis.
- Item Alterações em cães após os procedimentos de ovariohisterectomia e orquiectomia: revisão bibliográfica(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; LINO, Estefany Zerbeto Basilio; SOUZA, Mariely Thaís deKnowing that ovariohysterectomy (OH) and orchiectomy (OQ) procedures are extremely important for the control of some diseases such as breast neoplasms, pyometra, prostatic diseases, uterine prolapses or torsions and knowing that many tutors go to veterinary clinics with complaints of obesity, diabetes mellitus or other endocrine diseases, behavior changes, increased amount of food intake and skin diseases after your animals are neutered. This review aims to bring information about some changes in dogs caused after these procedures.
