A 12-year-old Quarter Horse was referred to the Veterinary Pathology Service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine '' Octávio Bastos '', with diarrhea followed by dehydration and ataxia. Upon death, he underwent a necroscopic examination, where multiple pulmonary nodules with a caseous aspect center and bordered by a hyperemic or fibrous halo were observed. The lung was collected and histopathological examination was carried out, where lesions with granulomatous appearance and the presence of dichotomous branched hyphae were found. Through the results of macro and microscopically evaluations and the animal's history, the diagnosis of mycotic bronchopneumonia caused by Aspergillus sp was made, which usually develops by air through the inhalation of spores present in fomites and food.

Carcinoma de células escamosas em glândula AD anal de cão
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) THOMÉ, Helder Esteves; TREVISAN, Bianca Gonçalves; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
A squamous cell carcinoma infiltrating the ad anal gland of a 12-year-old male dog is described. The appearance of adenomas and adenocarcinomas of circal anal glands is more common in this location. It is important to note that the macroscopic aspect of both neoplasms is extremely similar, and the microscope needs to be carefully analyzed, avoiding confusion about the origin of the neoplasms. The rarity of this association justifies the present description, adding data to the national literature on veterinary oncology.

    Aspectos gerais da cicatrização
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; LIMA, Marcelo Cardoso de; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Healing is the process by which a specific wound is repaired, which may have been caused by different mechanisms, such as: cuts, trauma, burns, etc. The healing process involves four phases, namely: inflammation phase, fibroblast phase, maturation and remodeling. Traditionally, there are two forms of healing used in clinical care: healing by first intention, where the edges of the wound are brought together through sutures and healing by second intention, where new tissue is formed at the base of the wound.

    Hemiplegia laríngea equina
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Laryngeal hemiplegia, also known as '' snoring '' is a common problem in horses, where there is paresis of the left dorsal cricoarytenoid muscle, leading the animal to inability to abduct the arytenoid cartilage and vocal folds partially obstructing the air passage in the inspiration. In endoscopy, the asymmetry of the glottis can be seen and when subjected to exercise, the vocal cords vibrate, producing the characteristic sound.

    Scrapie
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) SAMOTO, Vivian Y.; TREVIZAN, Bianca Gonçalves; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Scrapie is a disease that affects sheep and goats caused by an anomalous prion protein that induces the transformation of other normal proteins of the animal to its anomalous isoform form. It belongs to the group of sponiform encephalopathies, which has the characteristic of forming amyloid plaques due to the protein disposition in astrocytic cells, and it is observed that certain genes confer susceptibility or not to this condition.

    Encefalopatia espongiforme bovina
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) TREVIZAN, Bianca G.; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, known as 'mad cow' disease, is a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disorder, with prion as its etiologic agent. Contamination occurs through the ingestion of concentrates prepared with ingredients of animal origin contaminated by the prion protein. There is no treatment, and prophylaxis consists in the eradication of contaminated animals.

    Anemia infecciosa equina
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) FREIRE, André Fernando; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Infectious equine anemia is a disease caused by a retrovirus that multiplies in the endolelial reticulum, is highly contagious and transmitted by the bite of blood-sucking insects, and contaminated instruments such as needles, hardware, etc. Due to the high mutation power of the virus, vaccine production is very difficult, and the adoption of prophylactic control measures remains an alternative to reduce the spread of the disease.

    Leucoencefalomalácia equina
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) CONCEIÇÃO, Luciano Fernandes da; FREIRE, André Fernando; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Leukoencephalomalacia is a fatal disease that affects horses and has been described practically all over the world. Its occurrence is due to the ingestion of moldy cereals contaminated by the fungus Fusarium moliniforme. The lesions are characterized by necrosis of the white matter in the brain. The main symptoms are: indifference of the animal to the environment, anorexia, blindness, difficulty in walking, among others. The signs appear within a few hours to a month after ingestion of the agent, and the animal's death may occur on the second or third day. Recoveries are rare, but when they do occur they leave serious sequelae, such as dementia and poor proprioceptive functions.

    Erlichiose canina
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) BAPTISTELA, Camila Alves; GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone
Canine Ehrlichiosis is a disease of great occurrence in several regions of the country, and its transmission occurs through Ripicephalus sanguíneus, more commonly known as '' brown tick ''. There are several species of Erlichia, however the most found is Erlichia canis, which in turn attacks leukocytes, decreasing the number of these in the infected animal. This rickesty also causes several clinical signs, of which the following can be highlighted: anemia, decrease in the number of white cells, hemorrhages and even ocular changes.

    Linfoma canino
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) VIEIRA, Priscila M.; BANDARRA, Enio Pedone; MOURA, Veridiana M. B. D. de; BITTENCOURT Édina
Lymphomas are malignant neoplasms characterized by the proliferation of lymphocytes, histiocytes and their precursors and derivatives. In dogs the etiology is considered spontaneous, unlike what happens in human, feline, bovine, birds and some primates, where the etology can be viral. It affects adult dogs to the elderly, with no gender predisposition, but there is evidence that the racial factor should be considered. They can be classified according to anatomical shape, cytohistological characteristics and immunophenotype. The most frequent anatomical form is multicentric, which presents as generalized and painless lymphadenopathy. Intermediate and high grade lymphomas are the most common, however the literature presents varied data regarding the frequency of the immunophenotype T or B. Clinical signs vary according to the neoplasia's localization.
