Item Abate de Rã(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) NABI, Mariana Sintoni; ATITE, Maytê Elzia; FLEURY, André; RABELO, Raimundo NonatoMeat is essential in human food because it has proteins of high biological value. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain it hygienically, from healthy animals and under veterinary inspection. For this reason, the technological steps in the slaughter of frogs must be well performed, in order to provide the producer with a better yield of the product, and the consumer with safe food.Item Abordagem clinica e estratégias de manejo da cinomose em canídeos silvestres: Revisão bibliográfica(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) FARIA, Alex Takahashi de; CARVALHO, Ana Luisa Gonçalves de; TORRES, Maria Lúcia MarcucciThe study on distemper reveals that this viral disease can affect several native species, resulting in serious consequences for populations of wild canines, whether kept in captivity or not, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. The clinical signs observed in wild canines are similar to those found in domestic dogs and include lethargy, fever, nasal and ocular secretion, in addition to severe neuromuscular complications that can develop over time. The transmission of the virus between different species represents a significant threat to the conservation of wild species, especially due to the proximity of urban areas to the natural environment, which results in the fragmentation and degradation of habitats. In addition, the migration of domestic species to conservation and rehabilitation centers also contributes to the spread of the virus, since animals can carry pathogens and transmit the disease to wild species. This work highlights the importance of an effective clinical approach in the management of distemper for the conservation of wild canines, demonstrating the importance of adopting appropriate diagnostic methods and treatment strategies, as well as the application of preventive measures for the intervention and spread of the disease between species, thus protecting the health of these animals and preserving them from infectious diseases.Item Abordagens clinicas e aspectos patológicos relacionados relacionados ao hemangiossarcoma cardíaco em cães: revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) TAGLIAFERRO, Karoline Saturnino; VARGAS, Thiago Henrique MoroniHemangiosarcoma is characterized by being a malignant neoplasm originating from the mesenchymal tissue of endothelial cells, being an important measurement in dogs, as it manifests itself in several organs, including the heart, in a primary or secondary way (through metastasis). In the heart, this disease can be observed in the walls of the right atrium, and, eventually, in the right ventricle. Cardiac hemangiosarcoma may have clinical signs, mainly cardiac tamponade, right heart failure, pericardial effusion and cardiac arrhythmia, however, such signs may vary according to the size of the tumor. In relation to etiopathogenesis and oncogenesis, they have not yet been well clarified, where their origin indicates that they are from bone marrow precursor endothelial cells, and it is also worth highlighting the association with hereditary predisposition. Furthermore, its diagnosis is difficult to conclude, as the changes are not well visualized in exams, such as radiography, laboratory and cytological analyzes of the pericardial fluid, due to the difficult cell differentiation in the effusion. Therefore, definitive diagnosis includes thoracotomy or thoracoscopy, together with biopsy. Regarding treatment, surgical or chemotherapy methods can be taken, such as performing exploratory thoracotomy to resect the tumor mass, respecting safety margins. While chemotherapy includes the interaction of vincristine, doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide, it is more advisable to administer it immediately after the surgical procedure. Therefore, the aim of this work was to highlight and analyze clinical and pathological aspects of this disease, taking into account literary data related to cardiac hemangiosarcoma in dogs.Item Ação dos medicamentos Arnica montana e Calendula officinalis sobre a cicatrização de feridas incisas em ratos(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) CANELLA, Carolina L.; PEDRONI, Pâmela C.; SILVA, Angélica do R. C.In the present work, the healing effect of the homeopathic medicines Arnica montana and Calendula officinalis, administered after the induction of cutaneous trauma in Wistar rats, divided into four groups according to the treatment was evaluated. In group 1, Arnica montana CH6 was used; in group 2, Calendula officinalis CH6; in group 3, the association of Arnica montana CH6 and Calendula officinalis CH6; and group 4 was treated with alcoholic solution (Control group). All animals, regardless of the healing phase, were euthanized on the seventh day of treatment. The results obtained macroscopically with the use of Arnica montana were significantly better than those of the other groups, showing better healing. Then came the animals treated with Calendula officinalis and the combination of the medicines Arnica montana and Calendula officinalis, whose results were similar to those of the control group at several of the evaluated moments. No animal showed behavioral change, nor was there any sign of intoxication with any of the treatments.Item Achado de úlcera gastrointestinal durante ovariosalpingohisterectomia terapêutica: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2009-09-30) MEGIATTO, Erika Alice Proni; MORAES, Cíntia Miguel de; MORAES, Franciana de; LOURENÇO, Maria Lúcia Gomes; TORRES, Maria Lúcia MarcucciDue to a lack of information, pet owners commonly administer non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs without knowledge of the interaction, dosage and consequences of misusing these drugs. This factor is the main cause of gastrointestinal ulceration in dogs. A female dog with anorexia and frequent episodes of emesis, as well as mucopurulent and melena vaginal secretion, was treated at the Veterinary Hospital Vicente Borelli, at the University Center of the Octávio Bastos Education Foundation (HOVET - UNIFEOB). In the anamnesis it was discovered that the owner had been treating his animal with meloxican for eight days. After the diagnosis of pyometra, the animal was submitted to ovariosalpingohisterectomy, where the presence of a gastro-duodenal ulcer in the healing phase and peritonitis was found. After palliative treatment for 30 days, he was discharged and medicated with his homeostasis restored. The purpose of this report is to warn that the indiscriminate use of anti-inflammatory drugs can lead to serious injuries, putting the lives of pets at risk.Item Achado histopatológico de lipidose hepática em fetos de gambá (Didelphis sp.) lactantes(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2008-11-30) GARCIA, Fernanda Figueiredo; MANÇANARES, Celina Almeida Furlanetto; MIGLINO, Maria Angélica; AMBRÓSIO, Carlos Eduardo; ROSA, Ricardo Alexandre; CARVALHO, Ana Flávia deOpossums (Didelphis sp.) Are highly reproducible marsupials, have a gestation period of approximately 12 days and extensive lactation. Fetuses receive high levels of carbohydrates and lipids from the mother during lactation. The objective of this work was describe the macro and microscopic morphology of the livers of opossum fetuses (Didelphis sp.) at different stages of their postnatal development. An old animal (5 days, 15 days, 22 days and 35 days) for macroscopic and microscopic verification of liver structures and consequent comparison with other domestic species. The animals' livers were processed and included by paraffin embedding techniques. Each block was cut and the sections were stained with HE, picrosirius, PAS histochemical reaction with hematoxylin, toluidine blue and Masson's trichrome to observe the hepatic structures. The macro and microscopic results indicate a premature development of the species in the fetal stage, similar to domestic animals and interestingly there is presence of hepatic lipidosis in all animals.Item Acidentes com abelhas (apitoxinas) : relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) SILVA, Ana Paula Teixeira da; SAWADA, Marina Lie; PINHEIRO, Alessandra de Oliveira; TORRES, Maria Lúcia MarcucciAccidents caused by hymenopterans (bees, wasps, hornets) are frequent in domestic animals, mainly in dogs and horses, but are rarely reported in the literature. The sites of the body most attacked by bees are the nasal, oral and ocular regions. Sometimes the immediate allergic reactions, caused by the direct effect of bee venom, outweigh the reactions caused by the venom of snakes, scorpions and spiders. The clinical state manifested by these patients can result either from the local hypersensitivity reaction by a sting, or from poisoning by a few stings or systemic toxic reaction by multiple stings. Most dogs stung by multiple bees, even receiving immediate recommended treatment, do not survive.Item Acidose Ruminal em Bovinos: revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) VITOR, Ana Caroline Silvério; VERONEZI, Nathália Giovana; TENÓRIO, AlanneRuminal acidosis is characterized by a drop in ruminal pH, resulting from high grain intake, or sudden changes in diet, which lead to changes in the ruminal microbiota. These changes cause the lysis of local bacteria and favor other pathogens such as Streptococcus bovis, which produces lactic acid. Lactic acid is largely responsible for the decrease in rumen pH. The diagnosis is based on clinical findings, such as hyporexia and decreased rumination, and on measuring the rumen pH of affected animals and classified as clinical or subclinical. Treatment is based on its form of diagnosis to alleviate clinical signs, however dietary management and adequacy of carbohydrate levels in the diet are part of the therapeutic and prophylactic methods in both forms. Prevention of this condition is done through prior dietary adaptation and balancing the ingredients in the diet. The objective of this work is to address the main aspects of rumen acidosis in cattle through a literature review.Item Ações biológicas das prostaglandinas na reprodução de fêmeas bovinas(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) ALVAREZ JÚNIOR, Roberto Aparecido; TUNIN, Adriana Maria Favaro; ROSAS FILHO, Adauto de CarvalhoProstaglandins are members of a large family of endogenous compounds, known as eicosanoids, derived from oxygenated fatty acids, unsaturated and synthesized in most mammalian tissues. The fact that concentrations increase during childbirth or abortion confirms the participation of this hormone in these processes. PGF associated with oxytocin causes myometrial contraction and PGE due to its spasmodic action on the anterior portion of the uterus, has a relaxing effect on the cervix. They are likely to participate in addition to uterine contraction, with events such as the occlusion of the umbilical vessels and the closure of the venous arterial duct.Item Acupuntura na Medicina Veterinária em pequenos animais: Revisão bibliográfica(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) BENASSI, Lívia Araújo; PAIVA, Jhenifer Antonucci; GONÇALVES, Brenna Maria Cyrino NogueiraAcupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy that uses specific points throughout the body, called acupoints, to insert needles and/or transfer heat to defined areas of the skin. This, through nerve stimulation, triggers responses in other areas of the body with a cascade of local, regional or systemic physiological effects, with the purpose of correcting possible energy imbalances responsible for causing diseases and/or pain. In veterinary medicine, there are 32 simple points and 40 bilateral points that are most commonly used in small animals. The points can be stimulated through various techniques in addition to traditional acupuncture, such as moxibustion, acuinjection, electroacupuncture, among others. The most commonly used techniques are used to control pain, and may also have significant effects in the treatment or adjuvant therapy in animals with neurological dysfunctions and/or sequelae, musculoskeletal dysfunctions or even behavioral disorders such as anxiety, aggression and fear in small animals. Acupuncture has been shown to be a safe, effective therapy with no side effects. Therefore, this study performs a literature review with the aim of elucidating the techniques and uses of acupuncture in small animals within veterinary medicine, emphasizing numerous benefits as an adjuvant treatment in various pathologies within the clinical routine.Item Adenocarcinoma de glândula salivar em cão: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) GOIOZO, Paulo Felipe Izique; MOURA, Veridiana M.B. Dignani de; BANDARRA, Enio P.The corpse of a dog of the Dobermann breed, female, approximately eight years old, cachectic, dehydrated and with a history of increased volume in the last nine months, was referred to the Pathology Service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine '' Octávio Bastos '' progressive in the cervical region. Subjected to necroscopic examination, it was observed that the cervical mass occupied the parotid region and at the cut presented bloody mucus content located in connective tissue stores, infiltrating the adjacent tissues; collected material and processed for histopathological examination, allowed the diagnosis of papillary adenocarcinoma of the salivary gland, in addition to pulmonary congestion and edema, and the liver showed periportal fibrosis, dilation of the sinusoid spaces and hepatic necrosis.Item Algumas considerações sobre a eficiência produtiva de vacas leiteiras de alta produção(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) ALVAREZ JÚNIOR, Roberto Aparecido; VILLARRETA, Elias TunonThe objective of this literature review is based on data from the researched literature regarding the economic efficiency of high production dairy cows, to discuss postpartum efficiency data due to the higher negative energy balance, first postpartum heat, pregnancy rates, heat silent, increased incidence of double ovulations, altered levels of progesterone, estrogen, IGF -1, luteinizing hormone and embryonic death.Item Alguns aspectos quantitativos e qualitativos de carcaças relacionadas a produção de carne ovina(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) AGOSTINHO, Douglas Fernando; FRANZINI, Bianca P.; SIQUEIRA FILHO, Edson R. de; BALIEIRO, Julio César de CarvalhoThe present work highlights the main quantitative methods of carcass analysis that are correlated with the improvement of qualitative / quantitative aspects of the carcasses as well as greater acceptability by the consumer market, the increase in organoleptic characteristics, such as palatability and juiciness of meat cuts, are directly related, in greater or lesser degree, with the following quantifications: objective measurements of the carcass, thickness of covering fat, rib eye area, PH, texture and colorimetry.Item Alimentação natural para cães: prós e contras - revisão de literatura(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) ANDRÈ, Andressa Yasmim Fernandes; ALVES, Ana Luiza de Andrade; NUNES, Alanne TenórioCurrently, the changing relationship between pets and tutors has generated interest in food alternatives, which are constantly growing. One of them is natural food, in which, in general, products intended for human consumption are used, such as: meats, fruits, vegetables, eggs, fats and dairy products. These foods can be presented as: extruded, pasteurized, cooked and raw, and have been modified to satisfy different consumption habits, prioritizing the nutrients required by the animal at the moment. The main reasons that lead tutors to change the ration for this type of feeding are: not understanding industrialized food labels, lack of option for a prescription diet in a given clinical situation, personal eating behavior, influence of the internet and friends, desire to cooking for your pet and strengthening the human-animal bond. The search for well-being, quality of life and increased longevity has caused changes in the pet food market. This modality is a potential market and emerged to meet the demand of increasingly demanding owners regarding the food and nutrition of their pets. In order for the animal to benefit from natural food, it is essential that the tutor strictly follows all the indications made by the nutritionist veterinarian.Item Alterações do fibrinogênio em equino com abdome agudo: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) FALCÃO, Sara Carolina Fernandes; CABRAL, Mariana Barros Ruggero; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme BastosIn blood samples the cellular and liquid components can be separated by centrifugation. The extracellular or acellular fluid is called plasma. The primary plasma proteins are albumin, globulins and fibrinogen. The latter is a polypeptide belonging to the group of acute phase proteins produced in inflammatory and infectious conditions. As fibrinogen is an indicator of inflammatory processes, its dosage is useful for monitoring infections, being more constant than the number of leukocytes, as they undergo daily fluctuations. The work aims to show the importance of fibrinogen in laboratory tests of a horse that was treated at Hovet with acute abdomen syndrome.Item Alterações em cães após os procedimentos de ovariohisterectomia e orquiectomia: revisão bibliográfica(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) BIZAIA, Emily Cristina; LINO, Estefany Zerbeto Basilio; SOUZA, Mariely Thaís deKnowing that ovariohysterectomy (OH) and orchiectomy (OQ) procedures are extremely important for the control of some diseases such as breast neoplasms, pyometra, prostatic diseases, uterine prolapses or torsions and knowing that many tutors go to veterinary clinics with complaints of obesity, diabetes mellitus or other endocrine diseases, behavior changes, increased amount of food intake and skin diseases after your animals are neutered. This review aims to bring information about some changes in dogs caused after these procedures.Item Alterações no perfil esparmático e constituição histológica dos testículos de coelhos sob a influência do aumento transitório da temperatura testicular(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) MARTINS, João Flávio Panattoni; BARROS, Michele Andrade de; IVO, Marcos Alexandre; OLIVEIRA, Priscila Carvalho de; BALIEIRO, Cristiano de Carvalho; AMBRÓSIO, Carlos Eduardo; MIGLINO, Maria Angélica; CARVALHO, Ana Flávia deThis study was conducted to investigate the sperm profile of rabbits, evaluating concentration, motility vigor and incidence of sperm with changes in the compaction of genetic material (pathologies of the DNA protein complex), under normal conditions and under the influence of the transient increase in temperature testicular. Eight fertile rabbits were used evaluating the parameters of 3 ejaculates on alternate days and then the animals were subjected to an increase in testicular temperature for 3 days, collecting semen samples on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 38 days for analysis. . Every 5 days a rabbit underwent orchiectomy for histological evaluation of testicles and epididymis.Item Análise biométrica de embriões, fetos e das membranas placentárias de equinos.(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2008-11-30) FERRAZ, Ana Cláudia Cristiane; MANÇANARES, Celina Almeida Furlanetto; MIGLINO, Maria Angélica; AMBRÓSIO, Carlos Eduardo; CARVALHO, Ana Flávia deFor this study, embryos, fetuses and attached membranes of 23 concepts of mares from Frigorífico Miramar - Pelotas RS were used. Embryos and fetuses were analyzed for size and external developmental characteristics to analyze gestational age. The attached membranes were weighed and measured for later correlation with gestational ages. The results obtained so far indicate that the embryonic and fetal development of horses is very fast in the early stages of development, this being a critical period of placental implantation and the beginning of the endocrine activities of the placenta. The biometric data related to the umbilical cord are not progressive according to development, having shown great variations among the animals studied.Item Análise comparativa do número de corpos de neurônios em áreas do córtex cerebral de diferentes raças de cães(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2007-11-30) ESTEVES, A.; PRADA, I. L.S.; MANÇANARES, C. A. F.; ROSA, R. A.; MIGLINO, M. A.; PAFFARO, A. M. A.; PAFFARO JÚNIOR, V. A.; CARVALHO, A. F. de.In this study, three dog breeds were focused, including Boxer, Doberman and Rotwailler, with constitutional types and functional characteristics that are distinct and distinct from each other. From the 4 brains of each race, totaling 16 fragments were removed from some areas of the cerebral cortex (auditory, visual, somesthetic, motor, limbic, olfactory and taste) that were prepared according to conventional histological technique and stained with modified cresyl violet. Through the manual - visual counting of the average number of neuron bodies, comparative data were sought between these brain areas versus races associating constitutional types versus functional aptitude. The slides were analyzed with the aid of the Zeiss O Axioscope, coupled with the KS-400 image analysis program version 2.0 Kontron - Zeiss O. The results allow to conclude that the quantitative distribution of neurons in the different cortical areas studied shows significant differences that establish correlations with the functional aptitudes and respective constitutional types of the focused races.Item Análise comparativa entre as características morfológicas renais dos felinos domésticos (Felis catus) e grandes felídios (Puma concolor)(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) HONÓRIO, Vinícius M.; ROSA, Ricardo Alexandre; AIUB, Plinio B.; MANÇANARES, Celina A. F.The kidneys are paired structures covered externally by a capsule of dense connective tissue, resembling a bean grain shape, thin and well defined. They are located in the retroperitoneal space, located ventral to the transverse processes of the vertebrae in the dorsal abdominal wall, projecting cranially to the last ribs of the abdomen. For this research, four animals were used, two large felines (Puma concolor), and two domestic felines (Felis catus), so that both species went through the dissection process to recognize the structures and anatomical location of the organ under study. During the dissection process so far there has been a difference in kidney size, kidney weight and vein caliber. and renal arteries between species, in addition to the fact that one of the large felids had an extra renal vein on the right side, differentiating itself from other animals. However, it is noted that the topographic location of the kidneys of jaguars is similar to that of domestic felines. The aim of the study is to characterize the kidneys of domestic felines (Felis catus) and the kidneys of large felines (Puma concolor) in the macroscopic part, making it possible to carry out a comparative analysis of the renal morphological characteristics between the two species, to verify possible differences between they. The aim is also to obtain information that explains the appearance of changes that may predispose the occurrence of common pathologies in feline clinics.
