Around 388 people die every day from the disease and around 60.9% of those affected are elderly (CASTILHO, 2019). Arterial hypertension affects approximately 25% of the world population (FERREIRA; MOURA; MALTA; SARNO, 2006). Several studies carried out have shown that controlling hypertension artery is of great importance in reducing morbidity and mortality cardiovascular (GUS; HARZHEIM; ZASLAVSKY; MEDINA, 2004). Your treatment can be done through the use of medications, such as Verapamil Hydrochloride, a calcium channel blocker, effective as monotherapy (TANWAR; NARUKA; OJHA, 2007). High blood pressure is often associated with several disorders metabolic disorders, such as obesity (BRAZILIAN SOCIETY OF CARDIOLOGY, 2007). The objective of this work was to identify the prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in students at a higher education institution in São João da Boa Vista, applying a questionnaire, previously approved by the CEP.
