This Booklet was prepared with the aim of offering
information to the general public about the prevalence,
of risk factors and the different criteria that have been
used to diagnose metabolic syndrome (MetS). At the
Brazil, the increase in the incidence of overweight and obesity,
has become a serious public health problem. Since, the
adult population has been diagnosed with (SM) and with
a high probability of developing Chronic Diseases
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): cardiovascular diseases,
diabetes, hypertension, cancer, stroke
(AVE), among others.
