    Economic development is often defined as an increase in per-capita productivity due to the restructuring of factors of production. This definition does not distinguish between development and growth. However, in some cases it makes sense to make this distinction. Development and growth mean increasing labor productivity, that is, the amount of goods and services produced per hour worked.
