Esta Norma especifica os princípios gerais para a elaboração e a apresentação de relatório técnico e/ou científico. Conquanto não sejam objeto desta Norma outros tipos de relatórios (administrativos, de atividades, entre outros), é opcional sua aplicação, quando oportuna. Nesse caso, os documentos devem sujeitar-se, tanto quanto possível, ao disposto nesta Norma.

    The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) is the National Standards Forum. The Standards Brazilian Committees, whose content is the responsibility of the Brazilian Committees (ABNT/CB), the Organizations of Sector Standardization (ABNT/ONS) and Special Study Commissions (ABNT/CEE), are prepared by Study Committees (CE), formed by interested parties in the subject matter of normalization. ABNT Technical Documents are prepared in accordance with the rules of the ABNT Directive, Part 2. ABNT draws attention to the fact that, despite a request for a statement on possible rights of patents during the National Consultation, these may occur and must be communicated to ABNT at any time (Law No. 9,279, of May 14, 1996). It should be noted that Brazilian Standards can be cited in Technical Regulations.
