The criterion used to choose the company was through a major crisis that the company went through, and how it managed to get out of it. Bombril was one of the first Brazilian companies to believe in advertising and to focus on building a brand: with intensive promotions and publicity campaigns broadcast on radio and television. The poster boy for Bombril steel wool, Carlos Moreno, became one of the most remarkable and beloved characters in the history of Brazilian advertising. Bombril is one of those rare cases where the brand's acceptance is so broad that it has become synonymous with a category.
