Pain is an unpleasant sensorial and emotional experience, which causes physiological changes in the animal, impairing the quality of life and prolonging the rehabilitation period, which is why veterinarians are constantly challenged to evaluate and treat pain. Anesthetic blocks reduce the need for general anesthetics and analgesics in the postoperative period, and for these reasons, they are widely used in large animals. This case report addresses the main obstacles to enucleation of the eyeball, the best drugs to use and a greater understanding of the technique.

The painful stimulus during a surgical procedure is extremely harmful for the patient's anesthesia and recovery. A very effective way to control pain is through locoregional blocks, responsible for helping to maintain stable hemodynamics as they substantially contribute to the reduction of trans and postoperative drugs. Using them, it is possible to inhibit pain at its source of transmission, preventing the stimulus from spreading, bringing peace of mind to the procedure as a whole. The local anesthetics of choice vary between lidocaine and bupivacaine, which act to inhibit sodium channels, responsible for ceasing nerve stimulation, preventing them from reaching the nerves corresponding to the site of application. This anesthetic method has proven increasingly effective and necessary within anesthesia.

Patients with breast neoplasms suffer from pain both from the neoplasm itself and from its surgical treatment, mastectomy, which consists of a very aggressive surgical procedure that often causes central sensitization due to repeated stimuli to peripheral nociceptors. In view of greater comfort and quality in surgery and recovery of these patients, it is necessary to use an analgesic protocol appropriate to the level of pain to which the patient is subjected. In Veterinary Medicine, opioid drugs are frequently used to treat pain in various situations, effective and safe agents, such as Remifentanil. This case report addresses its use in an anesthetic protocol, which helps trans and postoperative analgesia and leads to a reduction in doses of injectable anesthetic drugs and in alveolar concentration. minimum (MAC) of inhalants, providing hemodynamic stability during their use in surgical procedures.
