This project was based on research and re-reading of scientific articles related to the subject, with the aim of bringing knowledge about the subject and benefits to readers and seniors who may come to make use of our article. With a greater number of elderly people in society, we see such relevance in addressing different aspects of this topic, and how awareness should be addressed in the hope of changing the way we see old age. From the focus on the meaning of life, which encompasses all aspects necessary for well-being, the importance of self-acceptance and the rescue of autonomy are essential for this and all phases of life. Family and social acceptance should also serve as a basis for a safe environment that enables autonomy and facilitates the work of stimulating neuroplasticity, since the human brain, contrary to what is commonly thought about advanced age, always presents the possibility of development. The aging of the Brazilian population not only means a greater proportion of elderly people in the general population, but also an increase in chronic and disabling diseases. In the case study, cognitive screening tests were applied (Mattis Scale, HAD and PFEFFER) in order to detect signs of dementia in a resident of Lar dos Velhinhos Dr. Adolpho Barreto, in Mococa, seeking to detect whether any symptoms of cognitive loss stem from senescence or degeneration, and what is the relationship between the result and the participant's educational level.Item A natureza do envelhecimento(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-06-30) ANSELMO, Andriele Caroline Deoliva; ROSSI, Cintia de Lima; RIBEIRO, Larissa; FONSECA, Livia Garcia; MORAES, Victor Azevedo de; CAMARGO, Tamires Lopes; PRADO, Marcela Duarte; SANTOS, Amilton Cesar dos; BENTO, Patrícia Oliveira de Lima; ISAAC, Gustavo Elias ArtenAging is characterized by multifaceted factors, where exogenous and endogenous changes mark this phase of human development and can occur in a healthy or unhealthy way according to the way of life adopted over the years. Genetic mechanisms promote a decrease in the ability to regenerate and proliferate cells, causing a decline in organic, morphological and psychic functions, and the latter can generate mental damage of a degenerative nature, causing dementia states.
