    Congenital heart diseases are responsible for 40% of birth defects, being the second leading cause of mortality in the world. Congenital diseases are defined as a macroscopic structural abnormality of the heart or of the great intrathoracic vessels with functional repercussions.

    The current work aims to speak, based on scientific articles, about the congenital alterations that may occur during the formation of the embryo. Congenital alterations comprise a wide range of body structure or functional abnormalities, which are present from birth and are of prenatal origin. For efficiencies and practicality, the focus is on the main anomaly structure. These are defined as structural changes that have significant medical, social or visual consequences for the affected individual and usually require medical intervention. In this work, the causes of congenital alterations and when these anomalies are formed will be presented.
