Item Relação da hiperglicemia com a catarata biabetogênica em cães(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) MARSOLLA, Eduardo H.; FUKUTI, Renata A.; ROCHA, Lívia M. S.; TORRES, Maria L. M.; OLIVEIRA, Priscila C. deDiabetes mellitus, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, is a metabolic disorder characterized by hypoinsulinemia, meaning the animal's inability to maintain glycemic control. It is the result of the loss of function of the cells of the pancreas, which are responsible for the production of insulin. With the fall of the circulating hormone, it is difficult to transport glucose from the blood to most cells, generating an increase in gluconeogenesis, hepatic glycogenolysis and production of ketone bodies. Cataracts are an important problem in ophthalmology and common in cases of dogs with diabetes mellitus, since glucose saturation directly interferes with osmolarity through sorbitol inside the lens. Cataracts are the opacification of the lens resulting in loss of vision in the affected eye, which is usually bilateral in cases of diabetogenic cataracts and which can result not only in problems with visual impairment, but also in relevant secondary problems including even the loss of the eyeball. Unfortunately, there is no medication available for the treatment of cataracts, but in the case of diabetogenic cataracts, there are drugs that inhibit the enzyme aldose reductase and cause the cataract process to minimize its progression. However, the only viable treatment is surgical, with aspiration / dissection, intracapsular facetomy and phacoemulsification techniques being available to solve the problem.Item Manejo alimentar e reprodutivo de canário da terra (Sicalis flaveola) em cativeiro(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) TREVISAN, Thiago; NASCIMENTO, Priscila Leal do; IVO, Marcos AlexandreThe canary of the land (sicalis flaveola) traditionally imprisoned by the indigenous people for its beautiful song, has six to nine pairs of syringeal muscles, which gives it greater vocalization. The males have a bright orange core and brown wings and the females are yellowish-chested and whitish in the belly, and the puppies have the same color as the female until six months of age. A balanced diet is essential for the well-being and reproductive success of passerines, and it is necessary that birds in captivity be fed basically with seeds and fruits. Various types of seeds are available such as millet, birdseed, oats, niger, flaxseed, hemp and password. The reproductive period of passerines in captivity usually occurs in spring and summer, the place has both well-lit, relative humidity of 60%, airy, with no draft and temperature around 25ºC.Item Manejo alimentar e reprodutivo do trinca ferro (Saltator similis) em cativeiro(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) NASCIMENTO, Priscila Leal do; TREVISAN, Thiago; IVO, Marcos AlexandreThis his literature review aims to describe the food and reproductive management of Trinca-Ferro (Saltator similis) in captivity, about 10,000 species of birds, of which almost a third occur in South America, considered the continent of birds. Brazil is recognized for its mega diversity, currently occupies the second place in numbers of bird species, with 1,822 species. The creation of Trinca-Ferro (Saltator similis) has been one of the greatest passions for bird breeders across Brazil. The bird has the characteristic of being very brave and of a lot of fiber, easy to read, excellent adaptation. Due to its strong and melodious singing, much appreciated by breeders, the natural populations of S. similis have been gradually decimated by the illegal traffic of wild animals. . This species can also be known in certain regions such as Pixarro, Estevão, Bico-de-Ferro, Tico-Tico Guloso, Trinca-Ferro-de-asa-verde, João Velho.Item Laserterapia: indicações em Medicina Veterinária(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) LIMA, Regina Farias; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoLaser therapy is a therapeutic method, where the patient is submitted to a sequence of low-power electromagnetic waves, whose main characteristic is to reduce the harmful effects of inflammation and accelerate the healing process of injured tissues. The indications for this therapy are related to processes of tissue repair of wounds, reduction of painful joint, muscle and bone processes and causing various therapeutic effects beneficial to the patient. Like any other therapy, laser therapy has contraindications such as a pregnant uterus, tumors, among others and, in addition, it is performed on equipment that requires special care and professionals responsible for its handling.Item Homeopatia no tratamento de neoplasias em pequenos animais(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) SILVA, Gabriela Cardoso de Souza; FERREIRA, Mariana Albiero; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoCancer is considered a serious disease for a number of aspects. The emotional issues involving the patient and its owner, the side effects of conventional treatments and their rapid proliferation, generate a lot of prejudice and fear in relation to this disease. Homeopathy is an alternative treatment against this disease, which treats the sick individual as a whole, worrying about the body and the mind. It is a therapy that heals without harming the patient, restoring his vital energy, which was shaken by the neoplasm.Item Hipotiroidismo em cães(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) AVANÇO, Pâmela de Cássia; TORRES, Maria Lúcia MarcucciPrimary hypothyroidism is an endocrine disorder characterized by destruction of the thyroid resulting in deficiency in the production of hormones T3 and T4 and affecting the body's metabolic processes. Dogs are usually affected during middle age and show lethargy, weight gain, alopecia, pyoderma and seborrhea. As soon as the problem is diagnosed, treatment with synthetic levothyroxine must be initiated and the animal must be monitored periodically through laboratory tests, allowing the control of hormones.Item Fisiopatogenia, sinais clínicos, diagnóstico e tratamento da hiperplasia prostática benigna (HPB)(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) KUHL, Sara Elisa; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoBenign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common prostatic disease in dogs, being more frequent in whole males over six years of age. It occurs as a result of androgenic stimulation, mediated specifically by dihydrotestosterone. BPH can be subclinical or tenesmus, hematuria and prostatic bleeding occur. The diagnosis is based on history, clinical signs, physical examination (mainly rectal examination) and complementary examinations (radiography, ultrasound and prostate biopsy). Orchiectomy is the treatment of choice, but finasteride has also been used in dogs whose preservation of fertility is desired.Item Anestesia e analgesia epidural em cães(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) KIRCHHEIMER, Vinícius; BELO, Juliana Noda BecharaEpidural anesthesia is regional, segmental and temporary anesthesia, produced by anesthetic drugs in different concentrations and doses, deposited in the epidural space. Knowledge of the dog's anatomy is required to perform the procedure. Several drugs can be used to minimize side effects obtained when general anesthesia is performed. It acts on the caudal part of the diaphragm, and any surgical procedure can be performed in this region and, when associated with inhalation anesthesia, it reduces the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC). Epidural anesthesia reduces transoperative stress. It serves to control pain and analgesia before, during and after surgery. It is a simple technique, which does not require sophisticated materials or equipment, and is of low cost, and its use is feasible in routine clinics. It can be used in epidural anesthesia, local anesthetics, opioids, -2 adrenergic agonists, benzodiazepines, phencyclidine derivatives and combinations of these drugs.Item Ética na experimentação animal(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) GARCIA, Cláudia Fernanda Ribeiro; HUCKE, Erica Engelberg Teixeira da SilvaThe use of animals in scientific experimentation has been known since the dawn of humanity and has been driven by the constant search for knowledge. Thus, the use of laboratory animals has been of great importance in scientific and technological development, which culminated in discoveries of medicines, surgical procedures, among others, improving the living conditions of people and animals. However, the scientific community has been increasingly demanded in relation to the need to use animals in scientific research and the animal suffering so imposed. If, on the one hand, there are the most radical ones who totally repudiate any type of animal experimentation, we cannot fail to see the enormous contribution made by animals in this regard, placing humanity in a position of gratitude and respect, as well as imposing an ethical conduct by researchers . Therefore, this literature review aims to show the importance of ethics in animal experimentation.Item Retenção de mecônio em potro: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) RUFATO, Carolina Oliveira Andrade; MORAES, Mariana Mara; ABREU, Rogério Navarro de; FERREIRA, Francisco Pupo PiresA two-day-old Puro Sangue Inglês (PSI) foal was sent to the Veterinary Hospital of the Fundação Octávio Bastos, São João da Boa Vista-SP with abdominal pain a few hours after birth.
