One of the fundamental points is to show that the main objective of vegetable gardens in schools is not produce the food. It is to create a learning space, that is, students will interact taking care of the garden, harvesting the fruits and learning in the classroom about soil, water, care for the environment and among other topics. Having an interdisciplinary, facilitating learning. In this way, the quality of the interactions that take place in that space, whether between people with the natural elements, or people themselves among themselves, counts for much more than the choice and execution of the best planting technique.

The garden seeks to integrate the different types of learning resources, discussed on the students' daily life, generating a source of research and observation, demanding daily reflection by those involved. The vegetable garden allows students to be introduced to the world of agriculture, as in general the most do not know where food comes from, how it is grown, the importance of soil, of water and the economy related to them. In addition to embellishing and giving more life to our schools, having a vegetable garden is not only beneficial for our mental health, but also increases productivity, creativity, reduces stress and even improves concentration. Creating a teaching garden in a school environment offers a chance to explore and experience practices in an interdisciplinary way.
