    Brazil ended 2019 with more than a quarter of its adult population in obesity, according to a study published by IBGE (Institute Brazilian Geography and Statistics), with young people aged 20 or over going from 12.2% to 26.8% between 2002/2003 and 2019 (IBGE, 2019). Obesity can be simply defined as a excessive accumulation of body fat, which can cause harm to the physical health, such as cardiovascular diseases, breathing difficulties, increase in blood pressure as much as it can cause harm to health emotional issues related to self-esteem. Identify the etiology of obesity, It's not that simple, according to nutritionist Rachel Pamfilio who works in the United Nations World Food Programme, obesity involves aspects both environmental and emotional as well as genetic (PINHEIRO, 2004).     Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is characterized by arterial obstruction, blocked by the plaque. atheroma and part of the heart is not irrigated by blood and oxygen, causing ischemia, which is death of a part of the heart muscle. AMI is a major concern for public health, as it It has a high mortality rate and a high number of hospitalizations across the country. The factors that can lead a person to have an AMI are related to family history, gender, age, hypercholesterolemia, which is a high level of cholesterol in the blood, high blood pressure, diabetes, stress, poor diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity and lack of physical activity, which can increase incidence of coronary artery disease. The objective of this work was to identify the prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in students at a higher education institution in São João da Boa Vista, applying a questionnaire, previously approved by the CEP.
