Eritrocitose decorrente de neoplasia em cão: relato de caso
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) GOMES, Gislaine de Cássia; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S.B.
Erythrocytoses are characterized by an increase in the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin concentration and globular volume (VG or hematocrit) above the normal assessed for each species, race, sex and age. The globular volume above 50% characterizes a more viscous blood making it difficult to transport oxygen. This paper reports the case of a female dog, Sheepdog, 9 years old, who was seen at the Veterinary Hospital “Vicente Borelli” in São João da Boa Vista, SP, and who had a transmissible venereal tumor, abdominal neoplasia in ovary, uterus, spleen and lymph node . The blood counts performed significantly helped in the diagnosis, proving the association of these neoplasms with the erythrocyte alterations, called erythrocytosis.
