Item Esporotricose em gato doméstico: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.; TORRES, Maria Lúcia Marcucci; ALVES, Jeferson Douglas Soares; MANÇANARES, Celina Almeida FurlanettoSporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis caused by the fungus Sporotrix schenckii, which can affect several animal species, including man. Feline sporotrichosis is rare, but it is transmissible by biting, scratching, or by contact of the skin or mucosa with exudate from lesions. It can be manifested clinically in three primary forms: cutaneous, lymphatic and disseminated, the cutaneous form being more common in cats. The disease is of great importance for public health and infected animals, especially cats that must be handled with great care.Item Esterilização de larvas de Chrysomya putoria para utilização em bioterapia(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) FERNANDES, Maria Clara Chequin; SILVA, Marília de Abreu Huber e; TORRES, Maria Lúcia Marcucci; COSTA, Maria Cândida de Oliveira; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.; NAVARRO, Afonso CelsoLarval therapy consists of application of live larvae of Chrysomya putoria (Díptera Calliphoridae) flies in the recovery of necrotic tissues, due to infection caused by Diabetes Mellitus, osteomyelitis, ulcerative wounds and wounds in general. In order for the larvae to be applied to the wound, eggs need to be sterilized so that the action of chemicals destroys the pathogens that are contained in the eggs. This work aims to test the sterilization of eggs for future use of larvae in the treatment of wounds.Item Leptospirose canina: revisão de literatura(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) CAMARGO, Caroline Alves Julio de; REIS, Gabriel dos; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.Leptospirosis is a zoonosis associated with close contact between animals and humans, and can be transmitted through contact with contaminated water or healthy animals with animals. infected. Domestic dogs are the main source of human leptospirosis infection, as these animals live in direct contact with humans. This paper reviews the disease, addressing the main aspects related to the etiological agent, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis, and finally a warning about its importance for public health.Item Presença de inclusão semelhante a anaplasma platys (Ehrlichia platys) em gato: relato de dois casos(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) GOMES, Gislaine de Cássia; PEACH, Priscilla; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.Ehrlichiosis is a disease caused by gram-negative intracellular bacteria that belongs to the Order Rickettsiales, Family Anaplasmataceae, genera Ehrlichia and Anaplasma, with the genus Ehrlichia canis infecting mononuclear cells, and Anaplasma platys infects only platelets. Often the clinical signs presented are nonspecific. This work reports the occurrence in two cats that presented in their laboratory exams, morulae suggestive of Anaplasma platys. These animals were treated at the Veterinary Hospital “Vicente Borelli” in São João da Boa Vista, SP. In one case, a three-month-old cat with a history of motor incoordination, apathy and anorexia. The other case, an eleven-year-old cat, with a history of injury to the left eye, easy tiredness, wheezing and coughing. In both cases described, the presence of inclusion in a platelet similar to Anaplasma platys was observed in the blood smear.Item Transfusão sanguínea em cães e gatos(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2001-11-30) RENNÓ, Juliana G.; NAVARRO, Daniela H. R.; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.Blood transfusion is an emergency therapy, whose beneficial effects are temporary, aiming only to supply the basic needs to maintain the animal's life, until the primary disease is diagnosed and treated. Its indications are: anemia, thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, sharp drop in plasma proteins. For the transfusion to be effective and safe, it is necessary to know the specific needs of the patient, as well as the benefits and losses associated with this therapy.Item Trombocitopenia imunomediada em cães(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) TEIXEIRA, Kelly Cristina; RAMOS, Maria Cecília Tobias; OLIVEIRA, Gabriela Bócoli Martins de; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small cytoplasmic fragments originating from megakaryocytes that have essential functions for the maintenance of hemostasis. Disorders that lead to thrombocytopenia (platelet decrease) may be related to several factors, among them, Immune-mediated Thrombocytopenia (TIM) related to accelerated platelet destruction, which may be primary/idiopathic or secondary when resulting from other conditions. It is believed that TIM is the main cause of thrombocytopenia in the clinical routine of dogs, for this reason it is necessary to understand more and more about its etiology, diagnosis and treatment.Item Uso do biomarcador renal dimetilarginina simétrica no diagnóstico precoce da insuficiência renal(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) OLIVEIRA, Gabriela Bócoli Martins de; TEIXEIRA, Kelly Cristina; RAMOS, Maria Cecília Tobias; FRANCO, Débora Quioquetti de Souza; VARZIM, Fernanda Leme S. B.Kidney disease is commonly found in the small animal clinic, but its diagnosis often becomes late. Therefore, currently research by biomarkers More sensitive kidneys have been the focus of studies, in order to provide an early diagnosis, allowing an appropriate therapy for each patient in addition to improving the quality of life. The renal biomarker called Symmetrical Dimethylarginine (SDMA) has been showing significant early results for the diagnosis of kidney disease, being able to detect kidney damage when less than 50% of the function is compromised. The present work aims to address the use of this biomarker considered a great ally for the diagnosis of kidney disease.
