Cardiac markers are used to detect myocardial diseases, such as AMI. They invade the bloodstream, resulting in an increase in their levels. They are: myoglobin, creatine kinase, troponins, among others. Measurements of blood levels of cardiac markers are dependent on the time elapsed between the onset of symptoms and sample collection. The markers must have high sensitivity in order to detect the presence of cardiac injury, in addition to their rapid release at detectable levels. The objective is to present the markers, the role they play and their levels, together with the laboratory techniques used.
