Uso do plasma rico em plaquetas no tratamento da tendinite equina: revisão de literatura
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) SILVA, Laila M.; Flório, Naiara S.; PESSINATI, Bárbara D.
Equine tendonitis is an important pathology, which mainly affects high-performance animals and is characterized by tendon inflammation. The clinical signs of the disease are classified as edema and increase in local temperature, pain on palpation of the affected region and lameness. Its definitive diagnosis is made through ultrasound, a complementary exam considered the most reliable for this disease. Treatments can be classified as conventional, through rest, use of anti-inflammatories, cryotherapy and bandages, and alternative, such as the use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a product derived from the animal's own blood, in which we find a high concentration of platelets, and when administered intralesionally, they degranulate, releasing growth factors that assist in cell differentiation, promoting increased production of type I collagen, providing better tendon repair, strength and elasticity. The objective of this work is a literature review on the use and effects of PRP in the treatment of tendon injuries in horses.
