Item Controle de infecção cirúrgica em pequenos animais(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2008-11-30) MORAES, Maria Eugênia; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio C.; NEGRO, Maria Raquel de G. O. C.Hospitalization of sick animals greatly increases the risk of infections. The veterinarian has an obligation to minimize the risk of additional damage that may be subsequent to his interventions and this includes minimizing patients' exposure to infectious agents that can lead to nosocomial infection, taking into account that, in some cases, the infectious agent can be zoonotic. The objective of this work is to evaluate the levels of contamination in the Small Animal Surgical Center at Hospital Veterinário do Centro University of the Education Foundation Octávio Bastos (Unifeob), in São João da Boa Vista, SP, and develop an educational project, focusing on the possible critical points that arise in order to maintain the control of surgical infection in Small Animals. In the results obtained so far, it can be observed that in the collections made in the surgical environment at night there is a great growth of fungi. In samples taken from the table and floor, most of the time there was growth of fungi and bacteria, with the exception of samples collected after surgery, in which it can be said that there was a predominance in the growth of bacteria. It was also observed that the largest number of colonies is found on the plaque that is close to the door of the operating room, in relation to the others distributed in the room, due to the greater traffic of people. A positive result has also been obtained by modifying the glove routing routine, which was suggested as a measure to reduce the contamination that was found in the surgeon's gloves immediately before surgery.Item Úlcera gastroduodenal em equinos: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2009-09-30) ARCURI, Grazieli Braido; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio C.In recent years, gastrointestinal ulcer has been recognized as a prevalent and important disease in equine clinics. There is a strong relationship between its development and factors such as management, diet, stress, use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and others. Gastroscopy is the only efficient way to diagnose the presence of ulcers. If this is not possible, treatment will be determined by clinical symptoms, which are often vague and nonspecific. A 17-year-old mare with a history of intermittent diarrhea and normal appetite was treated at the Veterinary Hospital UNIFEOB, there was no possibility of endoscopy, the treatment was based on clinical symptoms. The animal showed no improvement, the treatment was changed to homeopathic. Faced with the condition, without response, euthanasia followed by necroscopic examination was implemented, with gastric and duodenal ulcers.
