(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2010-05-30) CANELLA, Carolina L.; PEDRONI, Pâmela C.; SILVA, Angélica do R. C.
In the present work, the healing effect of the homeopathic medicines Arnica montana and Calendula officinalis, administered after the induction of cutaneous trauma in Wistar rats, divided into four groups according to the treatment was evaluated. In group 1, Arnica montana CH6 was used; in group 2, Calendula officinalis CH6; in group 3, the association of Arnica montana CH6 and Calendula officinalis CH6; and group 4 was treated with alcoholic solution (Control group). All animals, regardless of the healing phase, were euthanized on the seventh day of treatment. The results obtained macroscopically with the use of Arnica montana were significantly better than those of the other groups, showing better healing. Then came the animals treated with Calendula officinalis and the combination of the medicines Arnica montana and Calendula officinalis, whose results were similar to those of the control group at several of the evaluated moments. No animal showed behavioral change, nor was there any sign of intoxication with any of the treatments.

Pediatric animals are differentiated patients, so the fasting established for these patients is different from that established for adult dogs. The puppies have a very low reserve of hepatic glycogen and if they undergo a prolonged fast, they are predisposed to develop hypoglycemia. The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of different periods of preoperative fasting on blood glucose, in bitches between 45 and 60 days, undergoing ovariosalpingohisterectomy. The animals were divided into two groups of ten animals each, according to the fasting period: Group G1 was fasted for four hours and group G2, fasted for eight hours. In both groups, water fasting for two hours before the surgical procedure was established. Blood samples for blood glucose assessment were collected before application of pre-anesthetic medication, right after the end of surgery and two hours after surgery. No lower than normal glycemic values were found in any of the groups and at any time, so there was no significant influence of the fasting period in relation to the glycemic values evaluated in this study.
