Osteossarcoma apendicular em cães: revisão bibliográfica
(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) RIBEIRO, Veridiana Pereira Alves; CARRIJO, Jacqueline Ohana Vaz; BIBIANO, Milena; ROCHA, Livia Maria de Souza
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor in dogs. Developing in nearly 75% of cases in long bones is known as appendicular osteosarcoma. Often seen in large, fast-growing dogs, it usually affects middle-aged to elderly dogs that initially present with acute or chronic lameness and swelling in the affected limb. Although the most used diagnostic method is radiographic examination, biopsy with histopathological analysis is essential to confirm the diagnosis. Limb amputation rarely results in a cure, so alternative treatments (chemotherapy) and palliative care should be used for animals affected by metastasis.
