The great difficulty in controlling mastitis is that the indiscriminate use of antibiotics can generate multiresistant microorganisms. The literature describes that enterobacteria are producers of extended-spectrum b-lactamase enzymes (ESBL) which leads to resistance to b-lactam antibiotics. The objective of this work was to isolate ESBL-pro-producing enterobacteria from bovine mastitic milk. The technique used in the antibiogram was the disk diffusion method recommended by the NCCLS (2002). Strains of Escherichia coli, Citrobacter, Protheus, Shigella, Enterobacter, Salmonella and Klebsiella were obtained, suggestive of producing ESBL. It is concluded that the presence of multiresistant strains is due to the inappropriate use of antibiotics on the property.
